all they do is put on a smaller pulley and change some of the stuff inside. itll give you maybe 10-20 amps, but it isnt reliable. itll spin itself to death and melt.

Thanks, good info. Any aftermarket alternators that come to mind?

i did a little research, and desno makes a 170 amp alternator for the 4cyl, or theres this one with a 2 year warranty:

whitey, you have a v6, right? or am i just remembering wrong? delco v6 220A one here:

this company also offers the denso 170A for the 4cyl. i requested a quote, so well see what it costs when they get back to me. otherwise, i cant remember any aftermarket companies off hand. all my other ca&e mags are at my parents house.

horsepower wise, they do the same thing as a stock alternator. i dont think theyll pull any more hp from the engine. also not sure if an under drive pulley would work on these. but yeah, our stock ones are good for MAYBE 80 amps. i believe my amps pulls 30 or 35 amps, so whatever is leftover has to power the headlights, heater, a/c, windows, moonroof, brakes, etc. if you have anything over 1000 watts in your stereo, you pretty much need a performance one so your car can still function and your battery doesnt die (as discussed before in this thread). the 170A alternator could be put in instead of a stock one so it doesnt have to work as hard, even on a stock electrical system.

^^^^ WTF ^^^ haha....wow....and i just though i would throw in my .02 i have discussed caps with the people over at NOR CAL Customs and they said that caps arent really the best thing for high output stereos, all they really do is look pretty and help a "very small" bit in recharging and output purposes, the realdeal comes in audio purpose batteries like Kinetic Batteries which i wanna run since i leave my system on while i wash car, chill in lots, blah blah blah....not dissing caps cuz im gonna run one to but in conjunction with a kinetic bat.

if you run a capasitor with your system you can use a OEM battery w/o lights dimming, but id suggest upgrading the alternator either way. Im on my 2nd battery and 2nd alternator, i have 2 12" kickers, rockford capasitor, 1000w sony xplode amp. the systesm stresses the alternator to keep the battery full of power, which kills it quicker, and when the alt goes, the battery on its way out, right behind it when you have a system.

im gettin the optima yellow and the odyessy alternator
