33Hz is insanely high for an IB'd 15"...my sub is 20Hz. it definitely makes a difference.

i'm also going to guess it has a .2-.3 Qts so it can handle a bajillion jiggawatts in a 2 cu ft box, and is only ~83dB sensitive.

what about an RE SRX 15? you can get on ebay new fro 135 shipped.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RE-A...582393QQptZCarQ5fAudioQ5fVideo#ht_3799wt_1101

Electrical Q Value -Qes: 0.45
Mechanical Q Value -Qms: 4.87
Total Speaker Q Value -Qts: 0.41
Free Air Resonance -Fs: 23 Hz
Equivalent Compliance -Vas: 203 liters
One-Way, Linear Excursion -Xmax: 18 mm
Efficiency -SPL 1W/1m: 87.6 dB SPL
Effective Piston Area -Sd: 810 cm^2
DC Resistance -Re: 1.8 ohm
Nominal Impedance -Znom: Dual 2/4 ohm
Thermal Power Handling -Pe: 300 W
Force Factor -Bl: 14.35

doesnt match what ryan posted perfectly, but seems like a decent match, and not a bad price.

wow, i totally expected the RE to have an aluminum voice coil, but its got a copper wind. nice!

the 87dB sensitivity is kind of a let down...we should be in the 90-92dB range. as you guys know, a 3dB gain is approximately equal to adding another driver or doubling input power ;)

still, the rest of the specs look right on for IB just by glancing at them.

the AE IB's take it up a level with shorting rings inside, 90.6dB sensitivity, and low inductance. while the inductance doesn't play a huge role with a low lowpass, they can play up to 500Hz. i've played my 15" up to 200Hz and it was fine. a 15! :lawl: they also have a max power handling of 500w, each. they're built like pro audio drivers (because they are, basically), but can play lowwww, unlike pro audio stuff.

that shorting ring leads to lower distortion...it sounds cleaner and there's no "bloated" sound whatsoever. people like high distortion subs because loud bass is fun. after owning a low distortion sub, it will be hard to go back to anything else.

its still plenty loud, however :lawl:

the QTS rating has to be a minimum .50 and ideally .70 Xmax is a little low also. The Fi IB315 has a QTS of .63 and a 30mm Xmax The Fs on the RE looks good though.

the Qts of the driver is a good "at a glance" number so you don't have to go and model every single driver when making a selection...it matters more what happens once it's in the car.

once a speaker is put into an environment such as a box, or a box in a box (a car), the measurement we're looking at is Qtc. the Qtc (or "Box Q") determines the response of the driver.

you know how a Qtc of .707 is ideal? well, your RF sub (just one) actually has a higher Qtc of .75 in your trunk...a high Qtc leads to a boomy, one-note sound. once we hit .8, then its time to start thinking of fixes or alternatives.

i would base my search around drivers with at least .4 Qts, but depending on Vas, they could go up to .7...since Vas and Qts are related to each other ;)

edit: my sub has an 18mm Xmax...i know the Fi's have more, but as i recall, a pair needs something like 20+ cu ft of space, which we don't have. i can model them if i can get a full T/S spec list.

Let me get it right first than we can talk. I can't really take it out very easily either. I can already tell even with the wrong speaker that this baffle design really adds a lot of clarity to the bass. I'm starting to get excited about this new setup!

yeah, I drive an old F150 and a daihatsu rocky so Im out but the wifes 6th gen is a candidate. I just started talking her into an IB setup, right now shes got a RF300.1 pushing a REX12D4 in a ported box. we will use the same amp, but probably step up to a 15(if it fits in the coupes pass-thru). and Ill steal the REX for my truck or something...

OP, whenever you find leaks between the cabin/trunk be sure to post em to make it easier on me as far as finding them. lol.

also, does every company list xmax as a one-way spec. I noticed that some companies specifically write down "16mm one way" and some just write "16mm", so does the Fi really move around 60mm?
