Random Thought. Full size spare.

This has been one of my random thoughts I have been having lately.
It would be nice to have a full size spare tire in the car at all times.
But. As I remember, even having the DX steelies in the wheel you will have
the trunk cover sticking up and uneven.
Has anyone figured out what size normal tire will fit in there? I guess it would have to be thinner than stock, but still be able to handle long term highway driving.

(Basically. Last year I ended up with a flat, on a weekend in the evening
several hundred miles away from home. So the dive back with that spare
donut was a pain. And it would be nice to have a spare that I can rely on
for at least a day's worth of driving in rain or shine at highway speeds.)

Any thoughts?

P.S.: I don't know if this maybe deserves to be in teh Suspension forum.

anything more than the donut will raise the floor.

like you said, the DX steelie is the smallest you can get. go with a 175 or 185 width tire to save space. anything narrow will be "stretched" on the rim.

What about a steel rim from a smaller car? Idk. Civic, or one of the tiny econo cars? Or what about having a different radius?

Civc won't even fit unless it's a newer one, maybe? I dont even know what their lug pattern is.

If you had a V6 i'd say you could use the full size spare from an RSX.

ill let you all know once i do my 5 lug conversion. i have a set of RSX wheels & an extra one that i got to use as a spare. but i think it's still not going to be even.

If it's a different radius than what you have on your car, it's not really a full size spare at that point..... so any way you look at it, it's not going to be feasible unless you are running a smaller tire diameter on your regular tires.... which will throw the speedo off AND look ridiculous...




My only propostion would be to use something like the NSX spare, which is a "space-saver" spare, which isn't fully inflated, until you pull it out to be used and you inflate it. Which would mean you'd also need a pump of some sort. haha, this is going nowhere fast, huh?
