Removing chrome off OEM 5spoke wheels?

Those wheels look like they were polished at some point but have been abandoned for a while. When you polish wheels you need to polish them frequently to keep that nice finish. By the way, paint stripper will never take off chrome plating. You should try to polish them again using Mother's metal polish and see what happens. Let us know.

Trust me guys they're chromed. They're just dirty with a dirt film over it. The chrome paint is peeling in the corners. I'll try and clean them up tomorrow and show you. It's not a clear coat.

Here's a couple of pics after a quick wash. You can see the peeling in the 2nd photo in the corners. As you can see these are chrome and not machine finished. I've seen the regular version of my wheels and how they look.

One of the other wheels has it worse and has big chunks flaking off.

If these are polished, there's no getting the machined face back. I'd say your only option is to paint them.

You mean polished before being chromed?

To remove the chrome you will can either dip them in muriatic acid, or sandblast them. You will not be able to paint them unless you remove the chrome.
