I don't think it's a mileage interval, I think it's supposed to be replaced when signs of obvious leakage are seen, but I'm not entirely sure.

While I'm a permatex right stuff user as well, but when a molded silicone gasket is available I would ALWAYS use it over a DIY gasket, no matter how good the silicone you're using is. What happens when the next guy to take off the vc can't because off the gasket? Or can't remove enough of it to fit a new one in? We both know that once the right stuff is used, it doesn't wanna come apart again.

I need to do this soon for my car too. Leaking a little bit of oil. Not sure if it's burning oil too. Usually when I do an oil change at 3k, I'm about a half quart to one quart short.

Spraying off around the VC with brake clean, especially on top of the intake manifold where it meets the head, will make the job a million times cleaner/easier.

The 4 rings are the spark plug tube seals. Sometimes they will bake in there so tight they'll be a ***** to take out. They can make an easy job take far too long in a heartbeat.

The 5 grommets are for the bolts. Separate the metal washer and the old grommet and cut it off. Slide the new ones on, Napa Sil-Glyde or any other silicone based grease works wonders for this.

On other VC gaskets, the 4 dabs of RTV can be really important, but I can't say I've had a Honda one leak yet without using it. If you don't plan on taking the VC off anytime soon, you're better off to do it.

when me n my cousin did those what a b****... we wasnt exactly sure how to get them on we considering we forgot to get some of that napa silglyde first tried forcing them in and nothing so our bright idea was to one stetch it wit needle noses while the other finagles the bolt in we ended up braking one of the grommets lol what a noob moment

I never even started replacing them on cars until recently. Has anyone ever seen oil leak from one? Me neither. A lot of valve cover don'ts even have them.

I say they're optional to replace, but if you must, cut 1 grommet off and try to install a new one first before you tackle all of them.
