Re: Painting rims

well, thats the new plan, haha. sounds like itll certainly hold up better than the rustoleum...**** let me down, first time ever. i though it would survive nuclear attacks...i guess brake dust gets the better of it lol.

Re: Painting rims

when i did mine i used duplicolor gm storm gray. i have a tendency to graze a curb or too so its easy to match when touching up. i only have to do it like twice a year.

Chris I know its a longshot, but I love the gunmetal on my XXRs. And what about the oem hfp wheels lately?

Re: Painting rims

Chris, you planning on taking them to a shop to get painted?

I'd just go with a rattle can. The duplicolor gunmetal that Larry used is nice, I've used it before as well.

If you WERE in fact thinking of taking them to a shop to get professionally painted, you'd be way better of getting them powder coated gunmetal. And a shop that does poder coat will have a lot of options to choose from.

Yeah, I want to stay away from rattle can. I know they can look good, but I'd rather get them done professionally. I have developed a great rapport with the head paint guy at my Honda dealer. He did my lip kit, roof spoiler, center tail light, whatever I bring him. He does great work and I save money. lol

We sat down earlier this week and went through several different manufacturer paint books, each one has their own version of gunmetal. Then we looked at the PPG swatches, and that made things easier. I'm trying to pick among those. I really thought I'd find an Acura gunmetal no problem...

Plasti Dip

For the possible rattle can project you are considering.

Thanks Derek. Like I said, I know rattle can can look good but it seems that it usually has to be kept up, and brake dust penetrates easier. Those look fresh though.

Thanks for the color reference, I like yours. Call me lazy, but I just don't want to bother with having to touch up. lol

What paint code is that, Andrew? lol j/k I looked at HFP, but they seem to all have that warm bronze hue. I want a pure cool gunmetal color.

Re: Painting rims

Anthracite Metallic from the TLs are nice..... NH-643M

As close to gunmetal as I could think of, for Honda/Acura

Re: Painting rims

Or you could just get the paint code for the gunmetal ASPEC wheels, paint them that color and keep it all OEM.

It actually MAY be Anthracite but I would check with Acura. Carries ASPECs matched her car almost perfect, and her car is AM.

Always liked the Anthracite Metallic. It doesn't have much flake either, so it shouldn't be too shiny/reflective for wheels. Thanks fellers, I'll look around for that paint code. Apparently there is a process that yields the ebony chrome, but I'd prefer AM. Thanks for the paint code Kevin.

There was also a great gunmetal for e46 M3's I want to look into just out of curiosity.
