A/C makes a difference....
The car will tend to stay at a bit higher rpm's when you have the A/C going..... from my experience with the V6 autotragic.

Lols
and people ask me why I don't use my A/C much.
Honestly I'm afraid of it, I don't know about your old CG but in mine it even makes this weird sound when it engages and sounds like an airplane turbine spooling down when I turn it off sometimes... haha
Oh, and to the OP my car ran lower rpms when I figured out for the first time that the tranny needed flushed and got that done.
You're car is probably fine
Also, just a thought;
Doesn't the car switch gear around 75/80?
When the car shifts the RPMs will drop,
if you were really in need of a tranny flush, the car could have been shifting late prior to the tranny flush.
So while you were at 80 it may have not shifted yet in which case your RPMs would be higher
and now that your tranny is flushed it shifts as/when it should downing your RPMs at about 80MPH
