Should you just get a temporary ban?

Would temporary bans be excessive?

The dj forum im on has restrictions on the FS sections they lock the sections till you have enough posts and they check that you were not making stupid post with one sentence or a word. Until you meet the requirements you can look but cant touch.

On another car forum im on you cant even see the FS section till you meet the requirements

New people don't necessarily know how to navigate around the website as much. It's very easy to bypass the rules forum and not see it by clicking the new forum icon.

I think that a 3 day ban needs to be a secondary punishment.

However, we need to find a way that makes the "rules" section more visible and easy to see when navigating around this forum for the first time.

If there was a way you could block someones privileges from making a FS thread, that would be the best way until they have attained 50 posts.

Easy fix, restrict the access to FS and WTB sections to users with 100+ posts. Then they can't post threads in the sections, and no one has to stay "busy" locking threads and banning people over nonsense. N00bs don't read the rules, and therefore, don't follow said rules. Banning them for their own ignorance is just mean.

like i said, take some tips from CB7 tuner... they have beginner section where beginners are only allowed to post, anything after that is 50+ post needed.... thats the only way you can regulate posting

be like it is
delete threads (ones closed due to sales could stay) since the "Re:" bar at the top of the second post in a thread tells what was in the title. i wonder how many noobs have made sales anyway.

restrict the forums to a certain post count and/or membership length. forum software would be ftw in this case.

ban the stupid and indignant like 1fastj30 and the ones who come back to do the same thing with a different account (whiteaccord, anyone? :lawl: )

if temp banning happens...id say written warning in like a PM or something...cause some noobs think that "oh my thread got locked...ill just make another...wtf?"

restrictions...ftw. temp bans are meh to me...

A ban would make the site seem unfriendly, most people have good intentions and are not breaking the rules on purpose. While you should read all the rules nobody does. If it is obvious they are just here to sell give them a warning and then ban them. Mods your doing a great job love the site.

Fewer members, great info > Tons of members, ****ty, shady info

I say we set up a n00b section and only allow them to post in said n00b section and the general tech section for immediate help on mechanical shiznit.

I also think we all need to think more before we flame. It does take getting used to how the way things are run around here and figuring out what goes and what doesn't, I know I had a hard time and got some flamage when I first bought my CG and joined.

i do think we need to keep the babies in their playpen for a while until we see who is here to stay and contribute and who is here to sell/scam/flame etc. There are a ton of people on here with 1k+ posts that I rarely see actually posting in serious mechanical threads that have nothing to do with modding (read: IACV thread for one), so I guess some of you OG's are noobs as well!

honestly this forum is actually very friendly compared to others their are very few rules so why not make it better for those to have privileges who actually use the site. You cant even have a sig on acurazine until you have a certain number of post so i say its time to restrict privileges for the actual members or else people will use and abuse it.
