I would start out with some nice components in the front with sound deadening. Personally i like JL audio or Hertz. Then i would look into subs and an amp. Don't even worry about the rear speakers they barely make any difference especially if you have a sub. If you don't already have a head unit that is the first thing you should get. Just my opinion.

the JL "slash" amps are good, but they're also tightly regulated. meaning: given a different input voltage (car off, 12.8-13.4v...car running down the road, 14-15v) they will be pulling the same amount of current from the electrical system as long as the voltage is over like 10v. under that, they just shut off.

in other words, dont be tempted to just throw a 1000/1 and 450/4 in there.

type r's are good. i miss them :lawl:

as for the speakers, get some components (endless amounts of speakers you could use, havent gotten mine yet so i cant make any suggestions) and a 4 channel amp. i took out my rear speakers and havent noticed, and my rear seat passengers only notice that theyre gone if the bass is really loud

I agree my buddy has a type r and it sounds really good. I find rear speakers to be pretty useless. If i were you i would get sound deadening stuff it makes a huge difference.

My old set up was 2 12" type r's powered by a alpine pdx 1.1000. It sounded nice, but I knew I was able to get better quality subs. Sold the subs along with the box, kept the amp and bought a Jl 13W7 for a steal. The bass of the 13W7 totally kills the type R's by a long shot. The set up was all bought for a about a grand also.

I also have some 3 way kappa series mids and MB quarts for the 6x9. I'm still in search for another 4 channel pdx amps to power them though.

word on the street is the brand new type r subs are actually really, really good. they even have shorting rings! that's almost unheard-of for entry level drivers.

what that means is lower distortion (a "cleaner" and "drier" sound) and the ability to play slightly higher instead of sounding like garbage over 80Hz.
