Funny things, impulse buys are.
While I was picking up some Royal Purple 5W-30 for my recent oil change, I found myself wandering down the 'Performance' aisle in an AutoZone.
A silvery gleam caught my eye, and I knelt down to examine the enormous chrome-finish aluminum tube that I immediately recognized as an SRI, but almost dismissed as being one for muscle cars, since it was sitting right next to a bunch of 'Stang intakes.
'Universal Short-Ram Intake, eh?' I thought, reading over the packaging for the large 3" tube with a single-bend 45-degree angle on one end.
'Spectre? Never heard of 'em.'
...So I grab it, and the universal filter of the same brand sitting next to it.
Makes perfect sense, doesn't it?
So I drive it home, thinking giddily that my car will be growling and spitting fire at all the Civics and Integras with park-bench spoilers around my neighborhood by the end of the day.
Needless to say, that's not what happened.
I changed my oil, pulled the SRI out of the backseat and held it up to my open engine bay. The end with the curve looked like it would fit perfectly onto the inlet on the intake manifold, the breather tube would be almost exactly where the old one was, only facing down instead of back, and the intake would then run out through my battery.
...Wait, what?

I immediately considered taking it back, but a quick look around my engine bay revealed a heavily-weathered positive battery wire, a horribly-oxidized and frayed ground to the engine block, and a snapped mount on the back of the airbox.
Considering I have two Pioneer 10" DVC subs sitting around doing nothing, plans to experiment with alternative drivetrain options, and an itch to modify what I'm constantly told is a difficult-to-mod car, I decided that the fitment of the SRI was a non-issue.
Here's a page with a picture of the SRI;

I'll have more, better pics of the part later.
Once the battery has been relocated to the trunk (thread here) I will take a 'before' recording of the sound, make the swap, and then record the sound after.
I'll have a review to add to the intake thread shortly afterwards, and then we can all laugh about how I blew up my engine.
