Coming back to this thread, I always wondered if something like Owen's Corning 703 fiberglass would do anything. It probably would do little for road noise but have some in your door pannels and rear quarters, atleast in a coupe, could be a low buck alternative.

I did this in my home studio and my speakers sound far better than I would have thought they could sound. It seems weird to absorb bass, and other frequencies but it isn't to tone it down, it is to make it cleaner. Maybe another low buck solution, and it is super light weight. Would be a bit challenging though.
