How do these come out or don't they? I am referring to the rusty license plate mounts.

the plate light?

go into the trunk and look at it from inside. the passenger side (as i recall) has a push tab so use a screwdriver on it.

chances are, it'll break and you can reorder one from TAS/dealership for $15 or just let it hang. stupid honda plastics...

lol why do you need to take the mounts off? they're behind the plate anyway.

either way...there must be a second nut inside the trunk lid or a tab thinger with the threaded things (like the ones that hold the front splash shields to the bumper).

yes the screws should come out. its probably just the rust giving you problems. just try harder but don't end up getting them crooked. maybe a longer wrench or spray something in the gap like wd40 or ky haha. hope you get it out. dont forget to buy new screws

Thanks for throwing doubt in there sketch! The screws were a b*tch to get out. As for the mounts: I tried once already and it wouldn't turn. I don't think grease will penetrate the painted area that surrounds the mount but was thinking of just sanding the whole area down and seeing what's what. I want them off because rust has a tendency to spread to surrounding areas.

Dude, leave them alone. If the screws are out, that's all that is meant to come off. The nuts/mounts are welded onto the trunk lid. Prying them off will only do more harm, and sanding them will harm it as well since it will expose more metal to the surface to rust and spread..

If anything just PB blast them, remove screws, clean off grease, and touch them up with colormatched paint. Mine are rusted to sh*t. Why do they concern you that much anyways man? They cannot be seen when the plate is on, and if they were painted at one point, rust will not spread everywhere from that one small location.

If you grind/sand them down, what will you mount your plate on? And if you do find a way to mount it, the plate will be surface to surface with your trunk lid, and that in itself will cause rust because the edges of the plate will end up scratching your paint hardcore.
