No, 215 is the width of the tire. If you're worried about bad streets, your main concern should be the number in the middle.
35 and 40 are low profile, which is not good for your situation. You would want to get 45 or maybe 50 but 45 will have both the look and function you're looking for. The sidewall is not too thick and not too thin.
So just go 215/45R17.

yea i just want to be able to go about half inch lower all around and tuck in
a little even if i have to camber out a bit. and im not too crazy about the idea of having to tire stretch or rolling fenders. I had a neat tuck when i first put the coils on but on 15's i was scraping everywhere

No way you'll be tucking at a 2.5" drop. Maybe a 3.

well when i first put the coils on it was on 3 and i had to bring it up to 2 because of the stock wheels so now im at a finger gap. i figure these wheels are 2 inches taller i can have a tuck if possible at half inch lower but maybe your right go back to 3 all around

i have the tl wheels on my car.... i went with 205/50/17 yokohama's... and ace is drooling over them.... if you want... ill be at my photo shoot with ace and you can judge yourself....

not at all bro.... i love the way it rides... especially on tight corners... but its wateva i dropped my .02 cents here.... i live in manhatten, home of the pot holes and craters.... u be the judge
