Is there such a thing? I’ve heard people say Falken Ziex run a little smaller before, but I always thought a tire size is a set thing and that there couldn’t really be variation within it. Is it possible for, say, a 225/40/18 tire to differ from another?

I would assume there is a difference between brands, as I have heard Keith and others mention that when it came to stretched tires.

Falkens tend to run small and I think nankangs

My hankook v12 seemed a little beefy or they could be true to size..

Btw i don't recommend ^ great tire ride wise but the sidewalls bubble

Most certainly. Different brands and different models of tires have varying dimensions of the actual contact patch vs. the "tire width"

I would disagree with that. I have been extremely happy with the 3 sets of Hankooks in the past. No issues whatsoever.

Maybe your a lucky one lol.

They ride great but they bubble. I've read of people who don't stretch the v12s having them.bubble
Me and Kevin have both had this issue

Certain brands (I know Falken does for sure) list the specs you're interested in on their websites. Years ago when I did my tire search, Falken's site showed me which line of their tires had which heights at certain sizes. Didn't bother to check other brands, but I'm sure there are at least a few that list this info as well. Just do some research rather than going by what people say, it's more accurate that way.

Hankook Ventus V12s run a little skinny but I'd say they're closer to true to size. Nitto NeoGens run narrow, Falken Ziex, some Continentals, etc.

Whatever you do though, don't get the Hankooks for stretching. They have the softest sidewalls known to man. It sucks because they're really easy to bead when stretching and they look fantastic stretched.

Re: Tires that run small

Thanks Kevin, def don't want a soft sidewall.

Reason I’m asking about this is because my new setup may poke just a tad in the front, and I think if I just get a tire that might run a little smaller width-wise, that it would make the poke less noticeable due to the sidewall curving in a little more toward the fender (as opposed to a tire that’s more square). Anyway I found a mint set of Dunlop SP Sport 01’s on CL for $500 which is a great deal considering they’re twice that when new. But thinking I should go with a tire that runs smaller width-wise if possible…it's just hard because I know the Dunlops are great tires at a great price, but looks are important too...

I am looking at specs for tires, and comparing the section width figure. But there is also a tread width number for some and not others? Here’s an example of a table from Falken’s site. As you can see, the section width figure for the Ziex 912 is 8.9, the FK452 it’s 9.1, and the SP is 9.1. The Falken tires also list a tread width number, while the Dunlop tire does not (it says NA for this on Tirerack’s site). What is the tread width figure?

Here’s a table from Dunlop’s site for the SP Sport 01.

Looks like the Ziex 912 would have sidewalls that curve in more, since it’s listed section width is 8.9 and the other two have 9.1.
