Hey guys i have the 99 accord coupe v6, the king of failed trannys, i change my tranny and engine oil every 4500 miles, and i change them at the same time to have them on the same schedule. I was wondering if its bad not to do the drain and refill way by filling and draining it three timmes to get all the old tranny oil out, i dont want to spend that much on tranny oil cas i use the expensive redline oil. Also is there any other ways to increase the life of the tranny cas i need it for another 2 years, untill i hopefully get my much wanted s2k. I push it a few times a week, how much of a strain am i putting on it? Thanks for ur responses

Please search for ways to help your tranny last, there's even a recent thread with lots of input from different people. I will say one thing you can do is stop pushing the car if you know the tranny is going bad, and never accelerate hard from a dead stop.

As for the drain and refill triple method, I never did that. I just drain and refilled mine every 6k miles. The new ATF Honda switched to is suppose to be better than the old stuff, not sure where Redline stands in regard to that.

What exactly do you mean by "push it"?

Has it been giving you problems?

Best to baby it and don't wait until it starts giving you problems to go easy on it.

What he means by pushing it, is simply that. Going WOT from a dead stop or WOT at all if you know the trans is going is a sure fire way to kill it pretty darn quick. If it's slipping and you need it to last, drive like grandma.
