Ok so the automatic transmission on my dads 98 4cyl accord just died, it slips when switching from 2nd to 3rd and will probably last for another day max.

I just wanted to know what are my options at this point ? i want to fix the car,

how much would rebuilding the tranny cost me ?

you can look for a used one, i think i saw a couple on various forums. Shop around if you dont have the money to rebuild it.

Or take it as an excuse to swap a Cl-S tranny:beer:

I know there was a recall all on the 4cyl AT's . Got mine replaced at no cost by the dealer a year or 2 ago. Im surprised no one mentioned this yet!
Take i t to the Stealership they may still have this recall in affect

1. Put in "working" junk yard tranny, probably looking at $5-600 in labor, $300 for the tranny.

2. Rebuild tranny, usually around $1800-2500, depending where you go.

3. Manual swap.

It wasn't a recall, it was an extended warranty for 7 years/109,000 miles and only covered the 00-01 Accord. http://www.hondatransmissionsettlement.com

i paid 1600 to get my trans rebuilt, 1 year warranty or 12k ... less than a year later i wrecked it ... when i ripped out the motor and trans, the trans had been marked ... i couldn't tell they were junk yard markings or from the shop to keep track ... personally i think they ripped one out of the junk yard and threw it on ... my advice, it's expensive so be careful where you go

Depending on how much miles you have on it you can get a new one for free from a honda dealer. Mine had 64k and dealer replaced for free! If you got some time on your hands stop by and ask them.

His is a 98. It's not covered under the class action suit.
