That's right, I think she's starting to give out. It happened ONCE about three weeks ago, and I made a mental note. Then two times on my way to NH the other night, and once today. From what I've noticed it only does it from 2nd to 3rd.

So, the question is, when the transmission fails, what should I do. I told myself that I can't justify spending all the money for a manual swap on a car that is going on 150k/mi. The car is a 98 LX, overall the car is in pretty good shape for an 11 y/o car. Engine is in EXCELLENT shape, and is strong as death.

So what do I do?

A. Buy a rebuilt tranny and have it installed (About $3k)
B. Return to stock, part out, and sell the car for about a G with the bad tranny.

Keep in mind this car is probably worth about $4500, not to mention that's what I paid for it two and a half years ago.

I know a lot of you young bucks are going to be like "Hell naw rebuild that ****!! 6GA FTMFW!!" But please try to be realistic.

Whats not realistic to me bro is spending 3k on a automatic that will sure fail in due time. Mine failed at 111,000 so u made it longer than most of us. I just got done reading a thread where someone has installed their autotragic twice and the third one is starting to give them problems.

I'm getting my swap done for around 1,500$ i know another dude got raped and spent around 2,900$ but he went all out. Another price i saw on here was 1,900$. If you want to KEEP your car, the miles should not scare you, i bet shes running perfect compression on all cylinders. Do a compression check first, make sure ur engine is in good condition. If it is, then I would just consider a swap. 150k miles isnt much. There is a guy on here with 200k miles and he modded his car already.

If your going to sell your car as-is, then you wont get ur money's worth.

If you swap another auto then ur out 3k and probably more than that.

If u swap ur car for around 2k then atleast u can have peace of mind and drive the car another 5 years put another 60kmiles and get your money out of it.

Keep in mind that the f23 has longer gear ratios. You will save gas, and they are better for turbo.

There is a guy on youtube who lives in calgary canada, his name is david rock. He's pretty famous on youtube as "davidsfarm" i dont know where in canada u live, but that guy could probably make ur honda into a spaceship if u wanted to. Hes very gifted and smart.

Final verdict: Poor 3 qrts of lucas transmission oil and sell the car right away as it sits. Or if u like ur car enough, it sounds more realistic to me to swap it out IF your engine has good compression. hope this helps

HOWEVER, if you do decide to part out I would pay you top dollar for your lip kit and rear wing. Since we both have the same paint code, it would be super cool if we could make that happen. And save me a little money and a lot of hassel

I'm not planning on keeping this car for five years. I'm not planning on putting anymore money into it mod wise, and the way I look at it I could use that $3k as a down payment on the car I want.

A MT swap is out of the question.

I got mine rebuilt for $1800. Same thing happened, 2nd and 3rd clutch packs went out, got a TC as well.

Look into Cottman Transmissions. Sometimes they have deals.

Just cuz it annoyed me...what does a compression have to do at all with swapping or rebuilding a transmission. That makes no sense, what-so-ever. Also, he's looking for cost effectiveness and long term, not for performance and turboz.

Honestly, and i know many might hate me for saying this, but i saw a while back you were considering getting a BMW....if you still have doubts,i think now or soon is the time to act on that idea. Not trying to get you to sell it, but you said yourself bro, the MT swap is out of the question...when my transmission goes out,im swapping in a MT,that's the reason i will keep mine. Good luck with your decision bro, spending large amounts of $$$ is never easy.

I would do the same thing, I just didnt know where ur heart was. If your parting out ur car. I would like to know. Pour 3qrts of lucas tranny fluid. It helped my car last another year before it finally went. That way u might be able to get more $ out of ur car.

Because it would make no sense to swap ur transmission or rebuild it with a motor that doesnt have good compression. For cost effectiveness it makes perfect sense. FOr the long term it makes perfect sense. I dont see how this "annoyed you" or how ur lost in this understanding.???

welcome to the club Justin, I think you should go with the 5spd MT (remember your I4 is much easier to find MT than my V6) just stop by some junk yard and pick everything you need for probally about $1500 in part and another $800 installation fee (of course some trusted machanic). Either that or you can give another $2K for a rebuilt trany and hope it doesn't fail you again (which most likely will because Honda AT suck a$$). Or you can trade that car in before trany blew for a 04-05 TSX 6spd for around $15K (not that easy to find lol) with some $$$ monthly payment for the next ? year(s) (remember the economy are ****ty now banker won't give out a loan unless you have decent credit score). Well that what I think but your money so you make the decision.
