The only reason I got an I4 was because I did not want an auto. I was not aware of transmission issues on the V6 when I bought my I4 so all the better.

I think the V6 is a nicer car, outside of the transmission. The brakes feel better, more power, smoother engine, sounds better, easier to find fully optioned out, etc. I don't get good gas mileage in my I4 but I don't drive a lot either so I doubt the V6 would get much less but it wouldn't bug me anyway. I don't think anyone had done a 6spd swap when I bought my car so I couldn't have known about it but I may have reconsidered had that knowledge been around. It is a pretty pricy swap but people continue to find cheaper ways to do it. On the flip side, I probably would actually do some engine mods with a V6 where I don't care on an I4. I refuse to put an exhaust on an N/A 4 banger.

I say 4 cylinder, at least for me. I have a 5spd , fully optioned out. Less maintenance, and less gas consumption goes a long way for a broke student.

It is a bit slow, but it doesn't bother me, especially driving stick. I can still take civics and 4 cylinder camrys , a nice reminder that things could be worse.

The v6 transmission as well all know is its downfall. Serious loss of power makes me think that the v6 accelerates only slightly quicker than a manual i4, but has more torque if you tow anything

Concerning 6th gens, personally I think it's more beneficial to opt for teh 4cyl (manual) EX.
Basically has every available option as the EX V6 without the extra 50hp.
However, the majority of the additional hp is lost thru the drivetrain and you're stuck with a crappy auto tranny.
I think everyone who had a 4cyl manual would agree with the 6th gen model years
With some bolt ons, a 4cyl Manual can easily hang with a V6 auto.
Case & point, here

3 qts at $8 a qt, or that's what they sell them to me for, they might be higher now but the parts guy sells to me under an account because I ***** that Majestic is cheaper.

Considering I use synthetic and change the oil every ~5k, it only gets the ATF every 10k. I've changed the fluid 10 times in 100k, so $240 on trans fluid in 100k miles. Some people have replaced the trans every 100k, what's that cost? I bet it's a few bucks more than the fluid cost me.

i just did a drain and fill yesterday and was able to snag 4 quarts of Honda Atf for 20 bucks, apparently I still get my employee discount at Honda..even if Its been a year since i've been there lol

^spend little money on maintenance now or spend a whole lot of money down the line for repairs.
Get oil from Meijer or WalMart at $25 for a 5qt jug of Mobil 1 synthetic and use your savings on Honda ATF.

I did exactly this!

about the engine mods.. I would love to do things to the v6, I haven't touched the motor due to the fact that it is auto :(

I would probably concur with that, Hence my desire to get a 4 cylinder.

I was about to finance one last weekend for $4000; for a base LX 5 speed sedan with 100k, but decided to pass up on it. I couldn't justify spending 4 grand on another one lol. so maybe a used one on craigs would be better.
