hey guys. I have been looking into getting an alarm. the viper 5904. the wierd part is how far off estimates are from independant shops

I have gotten 440 on the low end to 600 on the high end. That is with the shop supplying the alarm.

labor rates from 100-220 if i bring my own parts.

the wierd part is half the shops won't tell me if i need a bypass. When i ask its 50/50. alot of slick talkers when you call the shops and they hardly let you finish a sentence. out of 6 shops 3 said I do and the other 3 said no. LOL. which is ridiculous because these are professional people and it shouldnt be a guessing game for them.

The alarm itself goes for 300ish online. I have a gift certificate worth 40 bucks i wanted to use before it goes to waste at the end of the month. Would you guys recommend buying from a local dealer to get a warranty or bite the bullet and get it online? Im afraid of a hackjob and want it done right.

You need a bypass if you have the green indicator that looks like a key when you start your car. Honda dealers can make you a spare key using the VIN number; you will need your registration and drivers license for them to make the key. Cost was $35 for me.

I would ask JT Audio: http://jtaudioacc.com/

I paid $150 from a backyard installer for keyless entry and remote start. Which since I bought the alarm and bypass device online cheap I thought it was a good price for labor. Took him less than 2 hours.

^^just sent that person a message. I cant rememeber if i get the green key light. Never noticed it but I check next time I run an errand.

all the mobile installers are 120-150. All claim to have years of experience but none of em so far even has a fb page and only show seedy references when I ask. I'm sure 90% of em are legit but I just don't want to find out using my own car. lol

I used to have a viper (python actually) system on my old car with remote start and everything. i think i may have paid around 440. it was installed at circuit city and i have no complaints about the type of work they did.

the only problem about getting DEI products online is that they will provide no technical support to you. so if you have any problem you'll be on your own. It's easier to find help/info about other brands but i no idea how reliable any of them are.

Yeah our cars need a bypass.

I've never done our cars, but we would likely charge 2 hours labor since its a fairly simple vehicle.

thats goodto hear. I once had a motorized stereo installed at a large retailer and when the truck came back it had a nasty scratch on the center console/ glove box. It looked like a screw driver gash. At first they took no blame but eventually fixed it. It made me cringe to think they would hand over the truck after damaging it in such an obvious place but when I talked to the manager he seemed to be EXPECTING me back.

For that reason I have tried to stay with independant's since they seem to take a bit more pride in the work they do. not always the case but that's the hope!

Modern keys have a chip in it for it to start, the immobilizer controls this.

In order to do a remote start and what not you need to do a bypass. Basically with the bypass what we do is take one you your keys and put it inside a little black box that plugs into the alarm systems brain. Then also coming from the box is a wire with a ring around it. The ring is then put around the key cylinder. That way the immobilizer will detect the keys chip when remote starting. And only sends the signal when remote starting.

That's why you need another key made.

^^I was confused on this because a few of the people I asked said you dont have to get the ket cut at honda. Meaning you can go anywhere and get the key cut IE walmart. So that must be wrong then?
