Today as I was going down hill really slow I heard a weird moaning sound coming from the engine bay. I think it's the transmission but not exactly sure. It sounds like it happens when the transmission is trying to shift out of first. And I didn't apply pressure to the pedal. I was just letting it coast down the hill. The weird moan only lasted a few seconds too.

is it auto or manual? if its manual then it could be the throwout bearing, well thats what ive been told. Mine makes a weird sound when i take off in first, i'm not sure if its the same noise though.

I don't think it's the same sound though. Today I was going down a slight incline and I was at a stop sign. I let go of the brakes and let the car roll down on it's own but that's when it made that weird moan. I didn't step on the gas either.

Is it a moan or a whine? Damn our cars are just like girls hahaha

Seriously though if it's more of a whine - it's very possible it's the alternator. If it's a moan and only when in a certain gear at certain rpms with certain load on engine, then I am unsure.

Yeah it's more of a whine/moan it sounds like it's from the gears.

The whole time I was in OBD2B since I bought my car, it has always thrown the EVAP canister code.. and I never heard a moan, or a whine

Whenever my alternator started crapping out, I heard a whine.. I switched out the alternator to another stock OEM one and the problem was solved, therefore I don't think it is EVAP canister.

As bad as it is, I bet it's tranny/gear related.
