i hate how big and curvy all the new generation cars are being made... for example, the 8th gen accord... looks like a big ol' boat (probably handles like one) and the body lines are fugly... dont get me wrong the 6th gens are boats too but damn at least the lines on our cars make up for performance

also electronics are nice and all but i think its one of the reasons cars are weighing so much more these days... TCS, ESC, Seat Heaters, cars equipped with more than 6 speakers and my personal favorite.... projectors that move left and right to follow the path of the road... this might not weigh much but i mean really... is it really useful? most likely not...

and i really hope this never goes into production... Honda's ADAS (Advanced Driver Assist System)... basically for lazy bitches... car drives, steer's itself and brakes for you

I think the fact that post '02 Accord V6's came in manual 6spds is awesome, and interior design has also improved in the newer generations.

But exterior design and wheel design has completely declined.

Take the 7th gen Accord coupe for example. They are entirely too round even with the oem lip kits to balance them out. This is most apparent in the rear. When Honda evolved the triangular tail light design seen in our coupes and tried to translate it to the big rotund rear fascia of the 7th gen coupe, it was unsuccessful. And since the rear quarter panels round up toward the deck lid, it makes the surface area of the lid small, which means there isn't a lot of room for a spoiler. The spoiler cannot be long enough to continue the upward slope of the quarter panel and cannot overhang...so you end up with a little spoiler that further enlarges the look of the back. These cars do have a couple nice wheels, though. 7th gen sedans are a waste, so I won't go there.

8th gens...the coupe has a big rear, comparable with that of a new Solara. Both of these cars look cumbersome and pregnant. The slope of the area between the tail lights is fine, our cars have a less extreme version of that. But the 8th gen bumper also continues that angled slope downward, and you end up with a boat. The bumper of 6th gen coupes recedes back in, so it balances it out. The front of the 8th gen coupes and sedans is plain hideous, they could not have broken more design theory than they did, especially with the concave chrome outline of the grille. Foglight integration has gotten more lame as well.

What makes 6th gens so well designed? The exterior is cohesive, it makes visual sense due to a holistic design language. Body sculpting is proportional and subtle, and every angular line fades into the panel surface so it doesn't throw the next body panel off. Lines are angular but not sharp - the corners of the tail lights and rear fasica are slightly curved, as is the front grill and headlights. 6th gens may be a little outdated, but they are so elegantly simplistic that their clean proportional lines do not make the eye tired. Sure there are a few things that are just okay, and could have been better. The headlights are actually a pretty generic shape, but it works. There are some great things about the exterior of 7th and even 8th gens..but their problem is their overall design is not cohesive, and certainly not proportional...though the 8th is far worse than 7th. 7th is excusable.

The newest Accords look so unathletic and overbearing, it makes me elated to own the best designed Accord coupe to date by Honda. I just wish I had a 7th/8th gen's power and transmission. ;)

I won't even go into post '07 wheels because anyone with an ounce of common sense can do a few comparisons and understand that problem. :puke:

Sorry for the long post, my design schooling kicks in sometimes, in overdrive. Especially since I did a transportation studio. haha

PS - new engine bays are so cluttered with exterraneous crap and plastic covers it takes away the joy of working on your own car. No idea what I'll do when the time comes to buy a new one.

I hate DBW, and I hate traction control.

After 2002, cars have just been getting uglier and uglier. The 7th gen took abit to grow on me, and the 8th gen Im still not a huge fan of the styling. I do like the powertrain however. Hell I still dont think my Matrix is attractive, but it works. I dont like the unnecessary technology (DBW), and it is basically on every car you buy now. I also agree with Dinzdale, now the Accord is a full size sedan, and the Civic is probablly going to eventually become midsize, and then the fit will probablly fill the Civic's place.

dont those eliminate that 2 second blind spot or something like that? like regular halogens let u see the road when your right there but if they turned like projectors did u already see whats ahead before you get there....but i see what your saying. even if they do turn and theres something in the road you could be going to fast to stop for it anyways. i think they have their pros and cons.

old skool cars kick as$. I can rip out the dash and every thing behind in it in my 86 mr2 in like 20 minutes. Then I go look at the accords dash and I just think what the hell is all this.

I think toyota started putting dbw in their cars in the mid 90s, and now I think all of there cars have them. I think toyota made a huge downfall in the in the late 90s. They stoped making their last great engine the 2zz and now they have nothing. All their engines are great still, but nothing stands out.

I hate the new accords. they are effing huge.

i hate that everything is electronic driven... i like the oldies when its just simple... engine radio... now there is passcodes to radios, imobilizers(which isnt so bad), and everything is controlled by a central computer... i want a carburated engine
I can assure you that electronic fuel injection was one of the single greatest things to happen to the automobile. Carburetors suck. Period. They are also not nearly as easy to work on as people claim them to be. Also mechanical pumps were simple, sure, but not very efficient. In fact, they did'nt actually pump, they sucked fuel to the jets. The electronic fuel pump allowed for auto makers to actually control fuel flow rates. And since they were now positively displacing fuel from the tank (read: not sucking, but pumping) as well as using computer controlled injectors they could implement fuel return systems to send the unused fuel back to the tank. What a novel idea...

This also made driving a car less of a hassle. Have you ever tried starting a carbureted car on a winter morning? Even if you could get the choke set right and the thing running, it would stumble until the engine temp rose to operating temperature. Or how about on a hot day when the car had just been run for an hour. The fuel used to vaporize in the lines causing a no start symptom called "vapor lock". EFI was God's gift to man.

I will agree with the whole styling issue. I hate the "cat eyes" that every car seems to have, or when they make a car whose headlights extend halfway back downt the front fender.

As far as electronics goes, I'm all for it with some exceptions (I think CAN-BUS systems are pointless). I say don't be afraid of something just because you don't know how it works. Sorry to make it so long, it's just that sometimes we have some of these small talks in my auto classes here at SIUC and they get pretty heated (it's always the domestic carburetor lovers vs. the JDM fanboys; of which I will glady pledge allegiance). Oh, and NYNick I wasn't trying to call you out; just throwing in my .02:)
