Ok im kinda dumb and don't know much about audio only the basics

so in attempt to change my front speakers i ran across a box in my door which was there when i bought it

The car had Mb Quart 6.5 speakers in the front had to take them out because one was blown and the other was starting to rattle to its death lol

I actually found this picture in this forum and saved it so i didnt have to take my door apart to show you guys this is pretty much exactly what is in my door on both doors what is it and what is it used for?

I added some cheap sony speakers to replace the other ones and they sound like **** I've have the same speakers in another car and they didnt sound half as bad as they do in my car could this box have something to do with it?

And please don't say buy new speakers, kinda tight on money right now

Educate me please

those are crossovers.....basically they send different sound frequencies to different speakers...so the tweeters get the high and the subs get the lows

not there
you should keep those in there and put the 6.5" where it says "W" and wire some tweeters to the "T" much better sound quality ;)

those are mb quart which = $
that was 1nonlyaccord's pic he was using as a reference. it depends on the MB model...mine aren't worth that much.

to add in to what was already said...

a crossover is designed for a pair of speakers (tweeter and midbass) and ONLY those speakers. there are very, very rare cases when you can swap crossovers or use a different speaker with a different crossover network.

correction crossovers are designed to make the supplied speakers sound their best, thats not to say it wont work with others speakers at the end of the day the crossover is just designed to separate the mids and highs or the way i see it basically remove the bass which either way will give you better sound than without a crossover...
