This thread is for a friend of mine that recently bought a pair of used XXR 962's 17x9 +30. He has a 2002 6th gen 4dr. He wanted to know tires size to purchase for his wheels. After reading here and looking up pictures I found out that 215/45s or 215/40s would be good. He doesn't like that fact his lip will stick out, being that we live in jersey and potholes are pretty bad here. Questions is I know he won't be able to go with 235 being that they're to wide, will a 225 be enough to cover more of the lip and still be able to have a nice 3inch drop with slightly to no rubbing after rolling fenders/quarters. These will be the tires he will be purchasing after getting the size situation settled. http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findTireDetail.do?pc=40218&counter=2&ar=45&rd=17&sw=false&cs=225

225/50/17.

Recommended sized tires to keep as true to OEM spec as possible. He could run a 45 series tire as well, since he wants a bit more of an aggressive drop. The rolling/pulling may be required in the rear, but the front should be fine.

Alright, but with the width of the rim being x9 will a 225 tires, will the rim still stick out as much as it would with a 215 tire. I know it depends on the tire but hes trying to go for something like this

Depends on the tire brand he goes with.

Different brands have different fitments.

There are threads on here about which tires will give less/more of a stretch.

Please do not do 225/50.... it will look horrible.

Do a 215/45 or a 225/45. DIfferent tire brands will stretch differently. To my experience, falkens, nankangs and federals stretch really well. And they are fairly on the cheaper side.

A 225 will require a roll/pull front and rear to prevent from too much rubbing.

Are you sure the rims are +30 offset? I believe they are +35. I've had them before and never saw a +30 offset.

Yes, Sorry you are correct they are +35. he's trying to avoid the hole pulling situation. Yeah, he trying to stick with a known tire, and good performance.

I stretched a feddy 225/40 on a 9.5 +35 and it doesn't rub. For a 9, I'd do 215/40. Federals stretch really really nicely.
