my dad has been detailing cars and paint and body work for 25 years and he has had a black&decker da sander for 13 years and a makita high speed buffer for 15 years and they both still work great and they have both been used at least once a week. and wet sanding is not hard i wouldn't pay someone to do it. just keep it wet and use i really high grit, make take a little longeer but it will look great.
Its not really the buffer,Its the pads and materials you use..MOST all buffers do the same just spin.some have more speeds than others.
I personally use a cheap 20$ harbor freight one I got on sale usually 40$. http://www.harborfreight.com/7-inch-variable-speed-polisher-sander-92623.html
Just use 3M foam pads colors correspond with what your doing.
white-Compound,Gray-Polish/swirl remover,Blue-wax/polish
But at work we use dewalt or old work had makitas
yeah i agree with you there i was just saying i was impressed with that quality of both of those. i use w a waffle pad with my da. sometimes i use it to buff too if the paints not to far gone.
Unless you have experience working with a rotary buffer don't get it. You can seriously damage the paint ( holograms or even burn the paint ). I would suggest that you spend the extra $ and get a random orbital buffer which is far safer and easier to use.
lemon, just get a porter cable DA. i borrowed one from a friend and i've never used one in my life and i managed to get a sick result with some different pads and chemicals.
put your hand on a porter cable DA and the only thing that'll happen is your hand will vibrate like crazy. put your hand on a rotary buffer and you may lose some skin from all the friction. the DA will be FAR more forgiving than a rotary buffer.
