You don't want more than a 50 sidewall. 50 is the correct size to maintain factory diameter and keep the odo/speedo accurate, but a lot of people go with 45.

How wide are the 17's? 225/55 will be way too big, you would want a 45 sidewall with a 225 section width to keep in OEM spec. Or, more likely, a 215/45.

You could use it, but it would look like crap. Sell those tires for what you can and put that money toward some new ones of the correct size.
