Right now my rear speakers are being powered through my aftermarket deck. I used to have a 2-channel amp for my front speakers alone and I have now acquired a 4-channel amp. The installer basically connected the rear speakers by splicing into the stock speaker wire in the trunk.

Would it just require me to run RCAs from the rear pre-out of the deck (which is currently empty) and run speaker wire from the amp to the rear speakers? Do I need to mess with anything from the main harness plugged into the deck?

Thanks!

Yes you should run the rca from the deck to the amp and run the speaker wire from the amp to the rear speakers. That way you can control fade front to back from the deck. Then you could turn down fading on the rear speakers so that more sound comes from the front speakers so you will have a better sound stage.

You do not need to mess with anything from the main harness.

One big thing to add. Make sure to terminate the ends of the wires from the head unit; I would do this behind the HU, but you can do it anywhere the wire ends now. And you can splice into the wires just like he did, it makes no difference to the sound or power.

One little thing to add. Depending on the front speakers and what amp I might would just bridge the amp to the front speakers and leave the rear speakers on the head unit.
