Whats the best thing to use to cut the hole in the airbox???
Wow, that seems like the last resort
A hacksaw or dremel would make quick work of it.
Ghetto.. it still wont sound like a real intake.
I had the eBay intake (seen on previous page) in my car for about 1.5yrs and
today I just got so sick of it, I took it out!
The CAI configuration only lasted me about a month before it was way too
annoying, and then the SRI was in there for well over a year. Sure it was
loud, but it really did not help at all according to my butt dyno.
Once the "new toy" syndrome wore off it was just as slow/fast (depending on
your point of view
), and it was nearly as annoying as a fart can. Even just
trying to merge or pass made it go into loud, annoying, teenager car-sounding
mode and it was unavoidable.
Maybe a name brand intake is better tuned for a mean sound, but if you're not
actually going fast (ie. a 6th gen with bolt ons) it seems kinda pointless.
clever. might remove my SRI to try it. =)
Yep, my eBay SRI is now off, and I have to say I like the DIY (no resonator,
stock airbox) version MUCH better. Anything I said before about it being
nearly as loud as my intake was wayyyy off.
I put the intake on right after my engine swap, so I wasn't driving the car for
about a week (at least) and I guess my memory was a bit off. The intake is
loud to the point of fart can resemblance, but the DIY version is
just
loud enough to tell it's not stock (if you're trying to notice). Pretty much
perfect for me!
And either way they feel about the same speed. Just now the guy next to
you doesn't have to know you have it pinned while he's casually pulling away
