He is trying to assrape you with no lube!!!!

Some cars burn oil....some cars burn oil a little more than others.... doesn't mean your "trusted" mechanic needs to do a complete overhaul of you engine with "performance" parts at your expense... i think he is aware of the fact that your not mechanically savvy and is trying to pull a fast one on you.

Honestly to me it sounds like your oil light came on which means your engine was getting low on oil.... if it was me I would either top it off or do an oil change and while your under there make sure your not leaking oil out anywhere so you could maybe prevent this from happening again....

Have you ever checked your oil level? If it was never low or hardly low, possibly oil pump issue. Possibly had t-belt recently replaced? Could have had oil pump off a few teeth...not so good...I do not know any 6th gens with head problems, i work at a honda dealership, only problem ive seen is like 1 in 10000 have a problem with the crankshaft thrust bearings going bad and allowing the crank to "walk" pretty sure that was on an automatic but not 100% sure. Oil light will flash when oil pressure is not above threshold, im thinking oil pump. May want to have lower end rebuilt not the head redone....

I don't know.... If I got a car in my shop and it burned oil and had a bad vtec solenoid, I would of been straight from the beginning and said it may need a whole engine replacement. To say do the heads and now a ring job is not a good thing. I would even be scared to have em' do a port & polish on the head! What kinda reputation doe this shop have? Does he specialize in performance or regular repair. If I offered to do a head for performance I'd tell my customer who it was going to for that, I wouldn't even touch it. Sounds like your engine is already apart so good luck!
