^ oh its the rear? damn... makes it harder... but pipe wrench is still the way to go

front coilovers and rear coilovers are the same design on our cars. i dont see how that makes it harder.

as for the op. use a pipe wrench. it grabs pipes, which is basically what the bottom sleeve is. you also might want to find something to hold the shock still, since the sleeve is seized, the shock will turn as well when you try to turn it.

pipe wrench man.. just try it. Who cares ifyou scratch the paint off. ahah

or try this.. put the suspension back on the car with only the 2 upper strut mount bolts and then tighten those up. Than spin the bottom collar with the pipe wrench
i think you should use the pipe wrench on the lower sleeve and tell me how that works when the shock is moving with the sleeve as i turn it. -___- :darryl:

i was thinking about using a rubber mallet and hammer the contact points a little. think that would work?

the rears are harder because you have to either unbolt the bottom 17mm bolt or undo the top 2 strut mount bolts... its not easy like the front where all you have to do is loosen a 14mm bolt on the fork and just turn the bottom collar.

personally, im expecting to have this problem when i get around to lowering my car more. what i was thinking was putting a good set of vice grips on the threads that are behind the coilover spring, since theyre not going to be used ever, and then the pipe wrench on the sleeve and then just spin, haha.

if you want to change the height of either the front, or the rear, coilovers, all you have to do is take out the bottom bolt on any one of the 4 you have, loosen the locking collar, and then spin the sleeve. theres no difference between the front or the rear. and if the rear is harder cuz it has the 2 strut mount bolts, i couldnt imagine how hard the front is, because it has 5 strut mount bolts.

lol, ive done mine plenty of times as well. and yea, the rear is a little more involved, i guess you could say, since you have to line up the bolt hole. unlike the front where you just drop it in haha.

be like it is
why are you guys insisting on busting up your coilovers with vise grips and monkey wrenches?

picture.php

strap wrenches are exactly designed to grab onto tube or cylinder-like objects that you dont want to damage.

not like i care what you do with your own ****...but the facepalm stands :lawl:
