    V6 brakes

I did the V6 caliper swap. On the 4cyl: use 4-lug Prelude rotors (11") On the 6cyl: just use you current rotors. 11.8" rotors will be too big to fit the bracket over.

finch13's 1999 Chevy Silverado Build Thread

Another update: Going to see what numbers 6.0L heads on the 5.3L will run. Seems to be the cheapest way to get a 2" intake valve. Unfortunately, we'll also have to attempt to mill .060" off the head to achieve the 10.5:1 compression I was shooting for.

finch13's 1999 Chevy Silverado Build Thread

Just priced out the entire build sans machine work... $2489. I have a hookup that sells me performance parts at jobber cost (just above wholesale) so the entire build is roughly 25% less than what it should cost. I'll probably pick up the block later this week :D Opted to maintain the factory...

finch13's 1999 Chevy Silverado Build Thread

Who is this TGUK you speak of? I only bought the truck to haul things, and I got the small one too. ...and to race those ****ers in Hondas :lawl: The volumetric efficiency of this engine will never drop below 85% all the way up to 6500 rpm, which is pretty damn good.

finch13's 1999 Chevy Silverado Build Thread

I will run over your Honda! 13 MPG is what's wrong, lol. I will definitely be getting a car sometime in the future, but I needed something to tow and haul car stuff around. All of my friends and family are sick of my borrowing theirs :D 4WD = freeway speeds in 6" of snow. Do eeeet. I'm...

finch13's 1999 Chevy Silverado Build Thread

Hey guys, long time, no post! I picked this little guy up from a friend's dad about 3 weeks ago. 1999 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 Z71 regular cab/short box with the little 4.8L V8 in it. Tons of fun to drive around in the snow; definitely nice not to have to put transmissions in my trunk to haul...

Mismatched body panels, much like your other Accord.

    clutch?

The release bearing is not spinning when the pedal is released (up). I also highly doubt adjusting the pedal will do you much good, the shop that installed the clutch had no reason to adjust it (most likely). I wouldn't be surprised if the clutch itself or a bearing in the transmission is...

PLEASE HELP! ALMOST DIE! WOT at start up! CAN'T DRIVE NOW

+1 for curse control. Had a Pontiac Grand Am at work today that would randomly go WOT driving down the road, turned out the throttle cable unclipped itself from the bracket and lodged against a radiator hose clamp. Scary time on the test drive.

    fuel pump location

Your brother wasted A LOT of time. Just put the switch on the fuel pump relay wiring, rather than the pump itself. This way you won't drop any voltage going to the pump, this is a good thing.

Wobble while under load - New axle

Best way to find out is to put the steelies back on and see what happens... unless you just transferred the new tires onto your steelies. If all else fails, bring it back to the shop that mounted and balanced your tires.

Wobble while under load - New axle

Well, with the lower ball joints (and possibly uppers too) you would need to rent a ball joint press and the Honda adapters. Some upper ball joints can't be replaced, they have to be replaced as an assembly with the upper control arm. The ones that can be replaced can only be replaced once or...

Wobble while under load - New axle

Probably pretty expensive to do all of it at once. At a decent shop, you'd be looking at about a grand. DIY using "premium" parts, probably around $350-450. And yes, you're one of the few that mentioned the quote in my sig. That was the coolest Fiero I've ever seen! GT too, nonetheless!

    Best spot to ground

Worth it. Also worth it to add a second run of 8ga wire from the alternator to the battery and the battery to the fuse box. Significantly reduces the voltage drop across the wire and reduces stress on the alternator voltage regulator.

Wobble while under load - New axle

Not an axle problem. You've probably got a loose wheel bearing/tie rod (inner or outer), ball joint, or a wheel weight fell off of your "new" tires. How old are these "new" tires? There's a date code at the end of the DOT code. It goes something like "DOT blah blah a lot of numbers 2410"...

Heating Problem after car is turned on

Since the temp gauge is operated off a temp sending unit and not the ECT sensor, it won't cause any driveability problems. Without actually diagnosing the car in front of me, my guess is it's a gauge issue, not the temp sender. If there were some electrical fault (wire insulation rubbed through...

    leaking oil

It's also possible you're burning that much oil. My car had 0 oil leaks, yet every few weeks I'd find the dipstick below the low mark, **** happens.

ecu reset + locked radio= smog fail. Need input

You guys with California emissions cars and the like will set an IM240 code (P1000) that will not illuminate the CEL if you haven't taken the car on the standard 240 second road test (outlined in post #3). This was developed by the EPA to try and stop people from resetting their CELs right...

    Map/baro

The MAP sensor is used in conjunction with a few other sensors to determine engine load. It typically affects the A/F mixture and with a high input, it might be leaning it out quite a bit. Does the car seem to have decreased power when you get on the throttle?

More info on the Morimoto Mini H1 projectors

In a perfect world, the distance between the step in the cutoffs should be the same as the distance between the lenses, if that makes sense. Yep, I didn't trim enough so I can't move the projectors "outwards" anymore, but it's hardly noticeable once you're more than 10 ft. away from a wall...

What brand/type of oil is ideal?

Sludge... this ain't no Toyota... Good oil ≠ good maintenance, regular oil changes = good maintenance. Many people could argue that synthetic oil or using a zinc additive with dino oil would be a wise choice on flat tappet cammed engines.

I had a VERY similar problem with my 5spd and thought the tranny was junk. Turned out to be the clutch, even though it wasn't slipping.

2 Misfire CELs after valve adjustment during hard acceleration

Good compression, good spark, probably good fuel injectors... my guess would be some sort of internal carbon buildup that causing preignition.

    srs and horn not working

Do the SRS reset, read the code if it comes back. As far as the horn goes, figure out if you have power at the high/low horns when the steering wheel pad is pushed. If you don't have power, then you get to trace the wiring harness all the way back to the horn button until you find power and...

recommended fluid change on rebuilt trans ?

My professional opinion says the standard maintenance interval is fine, but just remember, all fluids start breaking down the moment they're first used. Granted, they're designed to last their service interval, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with changing the fluid as much as you want...
