definition of multiplex: a means of sending control signals from a lighting control console to the dimmer packs. Signals are sent down one cable rather than using one cable per channel as is the case with analogue desks. At the dimmer end, a de-multiplexer (DMUX) is used to separate the signals and route them to the right dimmer. Often shortened (in brand names) to MX.
^-- thats from here and that definition is for theatres or whatever but its the same thing for cars.

the red outlined thing thats white... it also comes in blue.

you can buy a used multiplexor at a junk for like $45/50..

or a new one (clicky) for like $100

whatever you **** up, not my problem. don't come after my *** if you **** up, its your fault, deal with it yourself.
just be careful.

1st of all, disconnect your neg. terminal from your battery.

lets begin.
1. to make things easier, take out the driver seat.

2. locate your fuse box on the driver side

3. unscrew the 2 screws that are circled in red

4. pull out your cup holder, take off your shift knob
(twist off if you're manual or got the prelude shifter; unscrew the 2 screws on the side of the knob if you're auto)

5. take off the cover; i used a flat head to pry it out (use with caution, dont scratch the plastic cover)

6. unscrew the two screws, lift up the black bottom piece a lil and unplug the little plug for the plug thing at the arrow lol

7. pull down the top piece

8. unscrew the top left screw (my tab is broken and i have no screw lol)

passenger side (how it should look like)

9. heres a hard part.. unplug all of the plugs that are plugged into the fuse box
SNV32286.jpg

10. theres more plugs behind...
SNV32288.jpg

11. unplug the plug thats connected to the multiplexor behind it (use blue tape or something to mark it)
SNV32292.jpg

(sorry for the blurry pic...)
12. theres 2 tabs used to keep the box secured.. just push the whole box inwards.

^ im not sure if theres any screws for the box so look around after you unplug everything

13. once you take out the whole box, theres tabs holding the multiplexor in so do w/e to take it out but dont twist/bend it.. its "plugged in"

14. plug in the new one and plug everything else back in...

15. connect your neg. to your battery and try it out. if everything works, put all the panels back in.

16. enjoy. the end.

Hey Henry,
May you please take a picture of what the multpilex actually looks like? You mentioned that it's plugged in. So is it the white thing pictured to the left of the fuse box? Or is it another unit plugged into the thing with the white cap...
When buying one at a junkyard, I need to know what precicely to look for.

Also: when you say "push towards the passenger side" and other times mention the passenger side.. I don't understand why that would be mentioned for the driver's side multiplex.. or is this DIY for both driver's and passenger side multiplex units?

To take out the one the the driver's side seems like you would tug it out towards the driver side.. correct? Why would you push it towards the passenger side unless you take out the whole fusebox assembly...

Can you please clarify?

Thanks!

fixed. theres a pic of the multiplexor outlined in red.

what i meant is push it TOWARDS the passenger side, as in push it inwards lol you cant tug it out of the driver side cause theres tabs/metal things that the whole box hooks on to, as stated in #12.

hope that helped... feel free to ask me any questions
