Re: Russianred's Turbo Build Thread [ 56k = ok.. for now ]
You should fix the leak
You check the oil when the engine is cold.
I not 100% sure, but I heard u should warm ur engine before spooling ur turbo.
As far as oil level, if its between the 2 dots, u shud be okay. Just dont let it get below the bottom. The difference between the bottom dot and first is only 1 qrt of oil. But since ur turbo, u really should be anal about it and keep it full, I wouldn't go over since ur engine is running a larger load now.
I wanna see a video of u ripping that ****, did u get it tuned? I wanna hear the turbo whistle through the exhaust.
Ok, quick question about oil levels as they pertain to sufficiency.
I have a slight oil drip, as mentioned between filter and adapter, not block. Therefore, I periodically add oil.
* Should I be checking the oil levels on a cold, or hot engine, or does it matter?
My oil level according to dipstick is either at second dot, or just above usually.
* How much oil does the turbo hold, and does this oil leak out when the car is off, or does it stay primed?
* To sufficiently feed the turbo, should I keep my oil level just above the second dot, or can I let it get as low as midway between first and second dots?
Even though these questions may seem simple, I would prefer a concrete answer as I do not want to damage my turbo at all, and keep it in its prime function.
Thank you!
