Re: Russianred's Turbo Build Thread!
Well you gotta be creative.. all parts can be found at Ace Hardware, or the like. I think the end with the stopper and nipple in it is 3.5" or 4", and the end you put on is 2.5".
I bought it already made, but I think you need the coupler, 2 screw clamps, plastic cover for larger end.
Drill a hole in top of plastic cover, insert and secure bike tire nipple in place.tighten screw clamp. That's the basis of this product.
To perform the test:
You take your 2.5" end off your intercooler, and you test both directions - towards IM, and also towards the turbo outlet. So it works both ways from that one location where you separate the piping.
The pressure should hold for a bit, in other words it shouldn't just all leak out. But eventually, the system will depressurize on its own. What this does for you is the ability to hear, or see leaks.
Take soapy water and put some on every coupler and any place where there could potentially be a leak - just like testing location of a hole in a tire - you should hear hissing and see bubbles.
When pressurized, another thing you can do to hear leaks audibly, is take a vacuum or fuel hose, put it in/up to your ear, and place the other end at suspect leak site. The hose amplifies the sound just like a stethoscope. Luckily, I can just use a straight up stethoscope - the advantages of being a nurse haha.
This is all in theory, information I have found while researching and talking to people. If this is the way it will work in practice, I will make a DIY when I perform the test.
