I think i may have confused you, ill start over.

-Car and radio are on during the day, headlights are off. And as usual the D is lit up while driving.
t
-Night time headlights are on and radio no dash lights. but at the same time i can turn off the head lights and the D will light up.

- on a more important side note after the radio install i turned on the lights i heard a pop under the left side of the dash, but i checked all the fuses and relays and theyre all good??? Dont know what POPed

the D in the cluster or the trans lights in the console?

I thought you were referring to the lamp in the console earlier.

So, just so I have it straight.

you installed a radio
turned on the lights and heard a pop

now you have no cluster or HVAC illumination, except for the gear indicator light.

Again I will suggest that you pull the radio and the aftermarket harness adapter, you replace whatever fuse popped and you try the lights again. It's the last thing you changed, so it's most likely the culprit.

The D lights up when you turn off the headlamps because then it gets moved off of the dimmer circuit. Whatever fuse powers the dimmer circuit is likely blown, or you've managed to toast the dimmer itself. You need to ignore the gear indicator light and focus on the cluster/HVAC illumination circuit, as that's what you've hosed up in your radio install.

you fried your multiplexor. by chance did you not disconnect the battery when doing your install?

i ran into this same problem. i thought it was my multiplexer but it was actually my turnsignal fuse on the passenger side #10 i believe. check that.

yup if its not the radio/accessories fuse ( in your passenger side fuse box) then you must have short circuited something and blown your multiplexor

its not a cheap part btw, expect to pay at least $80
