from what i've read on monitors, a fast response time gives a worse rendering. like...for photoshop work, it's best to find slower monitors in the 8-16ms range. gaming is the opposite, where 2ms is ideal.

I've never heard anything like that... any kind of link or anything you could provide? I'd be interested in why someone would argue that. the response time isn't going to affect the quality of the image afaik, response time just dictates how easily the monitor (or tv) can respond to changes in the video signal. for computers, this will be your video card. lower response rates are more important for gaming just because the image is constantly changing. you'd want a faster response rate for watching videos on your computer too.

color accuracy and all that stuff that goes along with image quality is going to be affected by the color spread and bandwidth. This is plasma's main advantage. Whereas computers usually run at 32 bit color (higher bit is better for gradients like shadow details), an Lcdtv might only run at 10bit.

movies are actually at 24-30 "hertz", 24 frames per second for blu-ray and 30 fps for standard television. progressive scan dvd players are better b/c they actually work to simulate a 30hz picture at a 60hz, rather than splitting that 30hz image into 60 pieces (similar again to 120/240 tvs do).

the whole response thing was a generalization about IPS panels...the better photoshop monitors like lacie and eizo tend to have a slow response time.

if the correlation is coincidence or not...i dont know...

id link to the discussion but it was a couple years ago and i cant remember what forum it was on

another thing ive noticed on camera forums, is that you MUST have 30fps for video to be considered "serious"...even though 24fps is more natural...at least thats what i think for HD stuff...
