Boost/wastegate issue

Alright I'm stumped.. just got done turbo ' my car. I have this one issue, I have no boost first gear. And sometimes I fall out of boost. I've checked the wastegate, all is good there no torn boot with a 8psi spring. Sometimes I can hear the turbo spool up and sometimes I cant.... ( open dump tube for now.... stupid loud ) . Also one more thing, me and my brother argued of this for like an hour haha is the wastegate suppose to blow exhaust at idle???

Anyone that has any suggestions would be great! Thanks in advance

I'm no expert but a wastegate shouldn't be open unless there is actually boost. A wastegate is what regulates boost. So if you have a turbo that is capable of creating more pressure than you need, being that a turbo is a mechanical device, there will be excess pressure in certain conditions and that excess pressure must go somewhere. That would be the wastegate. So if you are in a vacuum condition (idle), the wastegate should be shut. Only when you are making boost at 8 psi should the wastegate open. Figure out your wastegate issue. Then check your no boost first gear issue.

That's what I thought. I know I'm not going crazy... well I'm gonna see if I can find a wastegate at our local performance shop

Well its confirmed wastegate is bad, went to my local Performance shop. A subby with open dump tube ( wastegate ) closed at idle. He's gonna give me a price on a turbosmart gate tomorrow. I'll post pics of my setup just for grins tomorrow.

Also had a hot spot of exhaust gases on the wastegate hat. Sign of the gate not sealing up!

Alright changed the gate out. Installed a turbosmart gate and boom! I have boost and spooling around 3700 rpms. Thank you guys for the help

Glad you got it fixed. Wish I saw this earlier, yeah the wastegate should only blow off when a certain positive pressure is reached. It should not blow in vacuum, if it was doing that then deinitely it was junk and because of this you couldn't build any boost.

Indeed.. well I decided too give the eBay emusa wastegate a shot and it let me down but my cousin had great luck with it, Pushing 15lbs on his eclipse!
I'm currently running the turbosmart gate and man just difference in quality! From casting too size! Well time for me too find someone too tune my accord in Kansas City area
