SO today I was getting the maint req light with 10 flashes. I took it and got the code read and it is the ERG valve according to the guy @ auto zone and the FSM. I took it off and used some carb cleaner to clean it up and i got a new gasket for it. The question is at 138,000 should there be some other way to clean the motor up of all the carbon that is built up with in it?

I thought the MRL was for required maint???

You are correct... The Maintenance Required Light is only a sort of "timer" light, which turns on after so many miles/so much time since its been reset. You shouldn't have had to do anything for the maintenance required light. I hope you're talking about the Check Engine Light, or else you got ripped off...

If he got a code then it was probably the CEL, the Maint light isn't gonna throw a code. The maint light flashes for 10sec when you start your car, over time it flashes a little longer, then when its required to do something, it stays lit.

This week I got a CEL code P0401 which is poor circulation with the EGR or something.
So I took it off and cleaned the hell out of it and everything is fine.
Click here to reset your CEL light
To reset your Maintainence light do this

1) hold the trip reset button down as you turn the car on (BUT DO NOT START THE CAR)
2) hold the reset button for 10 seconds, or until the light goes out
3) when it goes out, release the button, turn the car of, the start the car and you're all set

my main req. light has been flashing for 10 sec for the past few weeks, and now it stays lit up, but i dont need to change my oil for 1,000 more miles since i use synthetic oil. so does that mean i just have to change my oil and it will go away? or do i have to reset it manually when i change my oil? its too rainy to change oil today :(
