If you read the Wiki post, which you probably didn't, you would know that they planned on selling them here in 2008. The only reason they did not, is because the cars didn't pass crash and emissions testing. So, an unsafe s**tbox that is spewing out extra pollution. Like I said - Quality Control -

Oh, and Von Dubz - There are 2 reasons the Chinese are a leading exporter in the global market.
1 - Large land mass provides abundant resources that were previously untapped for the most part.
2 - Labor is stupid cheap there. You have a huge population and a social structure where the middle class didn't even exist until 20 years ago. If you are rich, you're good. If you are poor, you are willing to work for just about anything. Anything is better than nothing.

Well I guess the secret purpose is to kill all of the remaining Russians that Stalin couldn't kill off in the camps and turn the whole country into a post-communist yet communist slave nation.

It is well known that intellectual property rights in China are not always respected, resulting in copycat products. Their infringement laws are much different than here.

But what makes the least sense about all those examples you posted is that the company as a whole does not target their cars toward a certain market. They have cars mimicking a Merc sedan, and an Enzo? Really? You can't do both of those well. My life savings says one or both of them is a piece.

Another Chinese company copied Merc, check out a car called the S8, built by a company called BYD:

The best example of Chinese innovation I've seen in the auto industry imo is the Roewe 550. Not bad:

I'm nervous what will happen now that the Chinese own Hummer. :skurred:

be like it is
dont u just have to change like 10-15% of something and market it as ur own or something
yup, unless the item is trademarked.
Everyone's just picking on China because we make just about everything. I mean the cars arent in America so why is it even important.
lol wut

even if we got into the socioeconomic discussion of why china is bad for the US, we "pick on china" because they make S-H-I-T-T-Y products.

well, lets touch on socioeconomics for a second.

  • americans shop using the bottom line, quality comes second
  • companies outsource labor to china (and indonesia, malaysia, india, etc) to stay in business
  • jobs in america are lost
  • the chinese companies reverse engineer the products (DDM tuning, for example) and start making them on their own
  • more jobs lost
  • the american company now needs to find cheap labor again, hoping that their products will sell vs a chinese one that's really...pretty much the same as the US company's since they copied the US design
  • the market is flooded with cheaper and cheaper products, undercutting the competition by using ****tier components and slackening their QC procedures

its all a cycle...started and fostered lovingly by cheap, dumbass americans and the "walmart culture" and the "harbor freight mindset."

americans have complained about the quality of amercian cars for years, and now the chinese will bring over reallllly ****ty cars. they'll sell like hotcakes, putting america further into the ****ter.

Speaking of hyundai, they used mitsubishi motors when they first started, 4g63 non turbo to be exact, and they even used the 4g64 in the sonata's in the late 90's. This doesn't make them a rip off does it? Some manufacturers have to start somewhere. Whether it be with ****ty design and quality, or copying design from another manufacturer. Once they have their name in the public they can start bringing in their own design. This is their strategy to get sales, and I bet it works.
lol wut

they paid mitsubishi for their engines...

only thing i'm worried about is the cheap *** US shoppers who'll pick a chinese ****box over a real, GM-made Hummer just for the name and look...making it "acceptable" to own chinese knockoff cars.

I agree with everything you said in the last post Ryan. I'd like to touch on reverse engineering to add to it.

The Chinese reverse engineered many items originally made in Russia. Examples include among others - space rockets, armaments (AK and others), jet planes (MIG, SU), tanks (T90), and submarines.

For any items made in this way a license is required. The Chinese took the designs, changed a few details and without renewing or even purchasing the original license, replicated and began marketing the CHEAP designs throughout the world.

Most of the AKs in global circulation are Chinese made variants of the original Kalashnikov rifle, while the man, the world-renown Kalashnikov himself lives in Russia in poverty.

When I was a kid, every toy I owned said made in china. When I stopped playing with toys, I thought things had changed.. Then I realized THAT THEY NEVER DID.
