okay, car is a 1998 sedan. just passed 170k yesterday. just had a BIG service done with timing belt, water pump 200 miles ago.

problem is that with my aftermarket (generic brand with K&N filter) the car

tends to feel like it is choking itself on occasion. but today, i removed the

aftermarket intake so i could paint it flat black b/c i felt the polished steel was

too much.. but anyways, i put the stock intake back in and ran the car around

a bit and none of the problems that i had experienced with the aftermarket

were present.... ideas??

its most obvious when im in traffic and just inching forward. i let off the brake and slightly

touch the gas and the rpm's drop down to about the first line on the tach and the car

feels like its about to choke out and die but then you push the gas more and its fine.

also, idling at a stop light with aftermarket SRI is lower than normal. (normal being what

it is with stock intake)

Make sure your coupler isnt collapsing between the intake and throttle body.

What brand is it.

Heat soak is at least part of your problem - your SRI is sucking up all the hot air under the hood as you inch along in traffic.

Exactly.

Happened to me and it seems like the car was very sluggish.

Make sure the couple is right over the lip of the throttle body and the end of the entake pipe

If it's squeezing teh rubber connector and nothing under teh connectoer, that could be the problem

Does it have the vaccuum lines attatched? Generic intake sometimes don't have the provisions for the other attatched line/lines. Dirty filter maybe?
