Re: Mah system

is MDF something that you can pick up at home depot?
HD offers 24x48" sheets for less than $10 each. they're on a shelf (like books) at the end of the aisle, aka "quick panels" which are perfect since they can fit inside the car to transport.

just make sure you inspect them thoroughly before buying...

particle board doesn't take screws very well and is really heavy...so even though its cheaper and stronger, its harder to work with vs MDF at least in my opinion...
I know what some of you are thinking. RE XXX right? Well FYI they don't do well in extreme conditions sealed, or vented/ported for that matter because the cooling sucks.

I'm not saying RE XXX is a bad sub. I like it very much actually. They are great for a daily driver in a smaller sealed enclosure with less power. Similar to a W7, although they are two different monsters.
of all the subs i see for a small sealed enclosure that dont cost a kidney, i keep coming back to the RE SE/SEX (yes...thats the real model name :lawl: ). some people took half of the SE and half of the XXX to make a hybrid SEXXX :lawl:
Always good to be informed, personally, I always wonder whether certain subs should even be mounted in anything but a ported box, but the manufacturer's provide specs for both, so..........:ughrun:
reading the spec sheet (with all the confusing numbers) is a good way to tell if a sub will do better sealed, ported, or infinite baffle...

Re: Mah system

Fortunately, I had almost more than I needed in terms of goodies for the current setup, I would like to upgrade some of the wiring though, which I might do when I comes time for a rebuild.

Future plans for the car are going to delay a system rebuild at the moment though.

It's been helpful seeing all these system build threads though, helps with the learning process.

I like ID a little more than RE sealed. Just a personal preference. If you want ported I would really suggest DD's lower line. The 3500 series is an incredible sub under $400. There is also the 2500 and 1500 series. Go to DD's website and do a dealer inquiry for the closest authorized dealer to get a demo. It's getting harder to find quality these days. Some companies are sending everything to China to save money.

what do you have in mind, derek? i'm kinda in the "wire is wire" camp, but i can see that some wire just turns hard/corrodes/gets sticky after a while :ugh:

not only the whole made in China thing...but dealers are carrying less and less good stuff these days, especially around here. back in the day, the one local shop had almost the full line of orion stuff (late 90s) in stock...now, they have maybe one or two high end products.

the other main shop just brags about being the only jl dealer in madison, and how alpine and eclipse are the **** zomG!

when i see that something expensive is made in China/vietnam/philippines/etc, i'm just like :eusa_wall: but what can you do, you know?

Re: Mah system

I use whatever i have available, on this box it was liquid nails, then I use a nail gun and shoot it together really fast. On the box I have right now for my 15 I actuallly didnt use any glue, just 2" nails from the gun and a heavy bead of caulk then undercoating on every edge and its holding up just fine :p

Re: Mah system

nice...2" nails in a gun :lawl:

found a tube of red devil "sealant/adhesive" caulk stuff in the basement when i was building my box. it doesnt have the texture of silicone but it seems pretty strong. thats what i used for the box seams.

Re: Mah system

Ryan, braided wire seems to be the way alot of wiring packages are being offered.

I tried to stick with Kicker/Stinger HPM Series wire/hardware, but for two of the amps, I just used regular wire.
