the title should be changed to "almost all mechanics are crooks". i say almost because there are a few out there that earn an honest living do the right work and not taking advantage of car-tarded customers.

i'm sorry to hear that this happened to your sister.

Nice signature pic! All we have to do now is change that background with some canyons.

Sry for momentary thread jack

you cant really report them of the pricing is about the same for most places. if they really did over charged, then i would report them. but MOST mechanics are not crooks! you're paying for their knowledge to fix our POS. and if you know how to fix a car good for you. but remember that THEY had to use THEIR own money to open the shop. and THEIR money to buy the lifts and tools to work on your car. so people have to get back all those money somehow. price might have a difference but shouldnt be like 40bucks more than other places.

THE CAR HAS DRUMS IN THE REAR!!!

Yeah, that's what I had to tell somebody recently. I brought my van to the Toyo dealer for an oil change a few months ago. I get back a 3 page report showing everything they "checked" at no extra cost. In the brake section it showed exact measurements in mm of the front and rear pad pads. I usually check the lugs with a torque wrench after bringing it to a shop (if the wheels were removed).

I called the advisor back and asked if they had removed the wheels - "Nah, why would we do that for an oil change?" When I asked how he got the pad measurements he told me he'd have to call back. A few mins later he called back and told me they measure the front and rear pads by looking through the alloys.

When I told him I had steelies all around and drums on the back he again said he'd have to call back. His manager called and said, "Well, we have a lot of people here and I can't keep track of all of them. I tell you what, bring your van in and we'll inspect it at no cost."

the first place was a mineke place and the 2nd place where she had went b4 was a goodyear shop... i posted it on another site and there was a guy trying to break it down. I understand parts and labor can add up but more than $100 for a battery tie down... absolutely not!!

one of the favorites my teacher told me was that a lady spilled coffee and smoke started to come out. it was a brand new car also and she didnt want her husband to know that there was smoke. so she took it to the shop and my teacher asked her is there a problem. and she said that there was smoke coming from somewhere. so he diagnosticed and he said that he can either put the smoke BACK in from where it came from or get a new component. and putting the smoke back in was more expensive than the new component. haha
