So I found out the hard way that painting a polyu lip is not as easy as it looks. I went with this guy's suggestion http://www.fastwrx.com/fivstfrlip.html and I wanted to do a DIY job and bought a can of Black Krylon for Plastic. http://www.krylon.com/products/fusion_for_plastic/ It says that it is for plastic and does not require any sanding or primer. But I still scuffed it with 800 grit sandpaper anyway and cleaned it up with rubbing alcohol. Thinking that since it is made for plastic parts then it should be ok with some mild flexing. Big mistake! It cracked so easy and was flaking off like a b!tch. :furious:

So I have been looking at that Plastidip thread here with interest. http://www.6thgenaccord.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41357 and now I am thinking about using some flat black plastidip with the clear glossifier to give it a shine. I am hoping that something like this should last 3 - 4 years and I can peal it off and redo is necessary.:eh:

Anyone got any other ideas or opinions? Thanks.

Use real paint. Sand and prep, spray with a primer with an adhesive promoter, spray with a good paint (i always use enamel) , then clear coat it. Go to an auto parts store for your paint.

The paint you used is most likely meant for indoor use only.

Plasti dip sucks.

Yep. Or get it professionally painted, and get it clearbra'd. There's some cost up front with that, but your lip will look great for much much longer than 3-4 years.

Go here, give them your paint code NHBPXXX?? They mix your paint color into a spray can for you and ask to mix in clear.
$25.00/can

Black Krylon + Primer + The paint from there + 2 coats of clear (also from there - you can switch the nozzle and use the straight spray instead of the circle spray)
It should match - 98%....lol

In between paint coats, if not smooth, if you're using 800 grit, use 1500 to smooth it out even more.

WAY TOO MANY trial and errors on my project.................................................lol

Oh, and weather conditions is KEY.
DO NOT paint in cold.
DO NOT paint in humidity -_-....learned that the hard way because I wanted it done. LOL -_-"

+1 on the plastidip sucking.

Yeah, I know that I should get it professionally done, but I didnt want to spend too much.

Do premade rattle can versions come with flexing agent mixed in? That is my main concern that it will crack and flake off if it takes a mild scrape.

Painting a Poly lip is really difficult since they are always flexing and twisting. As much as everyone hates the ABS lips, they are my choice. Easy to paint and repair. Maybe painting it when it's on the car will be best.
