when u get it signed off, what exactly r they looking at? is it just a visual inspection? must the car be on? i'm gonna be re-doing my setup and i'm wondering if i should still run my gutted catalytic convertor.. if the car is on, it's pretty obvious i have no cat haha

I've had a window tint fix-it-ticket and all they did was take a quick look. Then again, it's window tint though. But still, the inspectors are not like auto mechanics or anything so I think as long as you have your stock muffler on there, they'll see it and pass ya.

Good luck.

I was wondering the same thing. I think they just look and go "OK" *sign*.

Some might be anal and bust out the decibel meter though. When I got a ticket for mine though I just paid for it and was done with it.

It probably depends on where you got the ticket, but I just paid mine online. It worked out to like $200.

I had a hard time finding an exhaust system to use to write it off so it wasn't worth the trouble. Good thing I know a cop or two now though. :)

I've been pulled over a few times for my exhausts around Los Angeles. Hence my screen name OneloudAccord. At the end of the month, I'd have to drive on residential streets parallel to the main street I wanted to drive on, just to avoid getting a ticket. Got tired of tickets and whatnot, so I'm happy with my Flowmaster...

I once got a fix-it ticket for having a "modified exhaust," and they caught that because the noise caught their attention. I had an N1 muffler with custom piping after the cat with no premuffler or resonator, so it was pretty loud and deep (not fart can). Went to a muffler shop, made flanges for my stock exhaust as well as the muffler I had that got me pulled over. I bolted on the stock exhaust, had the CHP look at it... They asked me to turn the engine on and that was it. Cop signed it off and payed the 10 bucks at the court.

Another time, my set up was a magnaflow exhaust with the same custom piping. Still loud and deep. Pulled over with a fix it ticket. Went home and bolted on the stock muffler... same thing, this time this officer just looked at the stock muffler on it and signed the ticket without having me turn on the engine.

Another time, I had to rev the stock muffler to show the CHP it was stock.

It depends on the chp officer I guess... They're usually nice at the chp office... it's the chp out in the field that are cranky.

Well, good luck dude. Haha. When the chp or police department call my house to ask for donations, I tell them I've already donated for the year.
