Re: Painting rims

RedRyder your car looks sooooo clean with the silver wheels, but I know you are bored with them. Try to photoshop your wheels different colors if you can to help you decide.

Thanks. I think I can keep the clean with painting the rims, just on another level.

This is my updated opinion from my last post. Forget the rattle can crap. I've been rattle canning wheels for a very long time and no matter how great the final product is there is always something that gos wrong, chips, clear coat fades, etc... Stay away from rattle can. I used to have my wheels powder coated but my priorities have changed due to having a 3 year old blah blah. Sounds like you know that already though which is good.

I really think finding the OEM gunmetal would really be nice. Your car is way to clean and perfectly put together to not go OEM Honda/Acura gunmetal. Just a thought. I wish I had a red car so I could go the red and gunmetal theme - I love it.

I still worry about you getting your wheels painted even if they are professionally done. Paint is a lot less durable than powder coating.

Good luck Chris!!

Thanks Matt. I completely agree, I just hope it turns out as I envision it. I am going to ask my paint guy about powdercoating to see if it's an option.

Chris, if you decide to do the same, I don't blame you. It's a good look.

Yeah, I am thinking of trying to get more gunmetal around the car, since the only gunmetal I have right now is the intake. lol I was thinking of getting the engine covers painted to match as well. Then paint the "3.0 VTEC" red, and that should sit well with the polished IM.

I have a Rotora BBK in red that I can't wait to have sitting behind the gunmetal wheels.

Re: Painting rims

I found the two shades I will choose from (both Honda codes):

NH643/NH741 - Anthracite Metallic
NH675 - Magnesium Metallic

My paint guy sprayed a couple chips for me, I have been contrasting them with the car/wheels like a madman trying to envision it. I'll get photos of this tonight if it's not still raining.

Re: Painting rims

Thanks Derek, but the 675 is like the 643 but just a little lighter and doesn't have as much black in it. The 643 you posted looks kinda close though. It's tough because wheels don't get a lot of light since they face out the side, next to the ground. And a lowered car blocks even more overhead light.

The 643 looks great, but from some angles it's so dark, and when viewed from 15ft away, it looks almost flat black. The 675 is a little lighter, and reflects light a little better. So I like both shades better/worse from different angles. Hopefully I can get some decent photos that convey that idea.

It's weird, the 741 is the new version of 643 according to Honda's latest paint books...both Anthracite Metallic.

Re: Painting rims

Yeah, I figured the google images wouldn't be exact matches.

What colour did slowaccord and the other Accord owner with the white Coupe and the gunmetal TL rims paint their's?

Re: Painting rims

You mean Larry, he painted his TL wheels duplicolor gunmetal.

Crude comparison...these look nearly identical, I'll have to photograph the paint chips I have at home.
