what should i spend my money on subs + amp or speakers +4 channel amp

also should i just go with alpines or what i dont really know much

what brands are better/cheaper?

in my old 98 i had 2 12 kenwood subs and kenwood aftermarket speakers.
to say the least it sounded good because of the subs but the speakers
them selfs we lacking in bass. also the speakers were not amped.

Alpine has good speakers....but if your gunna get subs... i suggest kicker, mtx, diamond, or Rockford fosgate.....

they hit harder, deeper, and clearer then wal-mart subs like sony.

it all depends on what you want in the end though.

if you want to hear your music loud and clear, get the speakers alone.

if you want to be rattling the neighbor's paintings off their wall when you drive down the street, get subs + an amp.

Personally, I would go with a complete set of components and a 4 channel amp.

I've had just the sub and oem speaker setup and it was ok.
My sub got stolen. After that I purchased a set of components Alpine Type R and Type R 6x9 paired up with an Alpine 4 channel amp and I love how clean it sounds.
I have a Type R 12' Sub but haven't installed it yet. Yea the speakers sound that good.

My .02 cents.

about a grand? :run: well, that's going to go pretty far :lawl: not at a shop it wont, however...

the doors are a pain in the ***, to be honest. 2 3/4" depth, like 5 5/8" cutout...plus you'll need to deaden them a LOT to get the best response and avoid rattles and buzzes. if you use a standard sub box in the trunk, same story.

how much DIY'ing do you want to do? access to tools? do you ever have people in the back seat (that you care about? :lawl:)? how much bass vs trunk space?

there's only 80A of current available at the absolute most from the alternator, so it's going to have to be higher efficiency drivers ($) and higher efficiency amps ($$).

i'd go:
-high quality 6.5" component set ($300-ish)
-4 channel amp, bridged to components
-mono amp for sub(s)
-sub(s) :lawl:
-deadening
-wiring
-box or box building materials
-speaker rings for the front
-etc...

what's the headunit situation?

there are options...

least invasive to most invasive:
-some components allow the tweeter to be mounted to the midbass (sound stage is kind of low, though, around vent height)
-get some new mirror covers aka sail panels, cut into the worse ones
-finagling some TINY tweeters into the stock locations (and dealing with the time delay associated with that placement...)
-a new pair of a-pillars are like $35 + shipping from honda (order a bunch of other small stuff at the same time, like clips, seals, or filters)
-fiberglassed a-pillars
-cutting into the door panels :ugh:

im messing with making some mounts for the stock locations but to fit bigger tweeters. its such a complicated thing due to the angles of the dash :squintrun: and i'm running active with time alignment so i can adjust it however i need...

wow a grand to start. that can get you some good stuff. I'd suggest go with the 4 channel amp, good component speakers and any 6x9s just to fill in.

amp suggestions:
- Infiniti Kappa four (you get about 125rms to the front speakers)
- Orion HCCA10004
- JL Audio (i have the old 450/4 and that is a pretty amazing amp)

component suggestions:
- alpine type x
- mb quart q series or premiums
- Diamond audio makes really good speakers  (i have HEX in my accord)

hope your system turns out awsome!!:peace:

sorry for being a little bias wiht what i got, tried to throw in other stuff i would buy for myself.
