Lol agreed. I havent really tried to do much convincing. I think at this point in life (still in school for another year), it just isnt in the budget in general to spend the money on the car.

I've done some basic things, like the jtc short shifter, TL strut bar, and larger vtec brakes. But yeah, the next thing was to lower it just a couple inches even if it leaves a small wheel gap. I have to be able to still drive it to work and to school, and home and all that.

I do agree with you though, and I really think its a money thing at this point, like I said, I/we pay for my school out of pocket.

It took me like 5 or 6 months to save up for my first set of coilovers.
Money isn't an issue it just depends on how dedicated you are especially if you don't make much money like me lol.
When i got my first coilovers, I was 18, made like 7.45 or .50/hour.
This was when i was going to school 5 days a week (45 minute drive from my house one way) and I work across town (20-ish minutes away.)
the only thing my parents pay for was when my transmission went out, everything else that isn't necessary I have to pay for on my own. My car was/is paid off and I pay my own insurance. My parents basically provide me a way to get from point A to point B and nothing else. They do give me money when i ask for things like to buy clothes, but I hate asking for money so I try to and usually do like 19 out of 20 times just get **** on my own. Especially now that i'm 20 i rarely ask for help. I'd feel like a complete bitch being like "mommmmyyyy can i get a ttttshirrttttt."
I ****ing hate people like that.

You just have to put back money and penny pinch if you want something bad enough. My social life ****ing died when I was saving up for coilovers. That may sound stupid to some, but it's something I really wanted and I was dedicated to achieving my goal without the help from mommy and daddy like a lot of kids do my age.
I try my best to be independent, as much as possible given my age and still in school.

People gave me **** because I bought wheels last november, and it took until like two months ago to finally get tires and mount them.
But at the end of the day I put iirc around $1000 worth of wheels, tires, valve stems, lug nuts, and mount/balance charges worth of wheels on my car. All with my own money, every penny. And i'm damn proud of that.

I guess life is a little different when you own your own home, and priorities slightly change. You spend $1000 on wheels and tires, and I spend $1000 on putting in drain basins, drain pipe, building a retention wall, bringing in a truck of dirt, and pallets of sod to fix a water runoff problem. Or $2500 on fixing a roof, repainting/recarpeting two bedrooms, installing wood stairs, painting the hallway and ceiling, and updating the lighting to downlights. Or our next project, which will cost 10K is to redo the Kitchen. Or we leave it and buy a new house.

When I was 20, the money I did make went to the car, and cars. I built a CB from ground up, while driving my WRX, because every dollar I made went to that, until I got older.

I like to mod, it's in my blood, but just remember youngin, when you get older, and realize how much money you threw down in mods, you'll say, "*****, thats partial down payment on a house." or etc etc.

I am at the age, and in a career where my modifications I'd want to do, should be done to a new TL-SH AWD, or to a BMW. BUUTTT, I do have to drive this car probably for 3 more years, and I would like to drive it the way I want it, which would include lowering it to minimize wheel gap.

I understand what you mean, notice when I said "Money isn't an issue it just depends on how dedicated you are..." I was meaning that as in if it's your priority. Believe it or not some people just buy a house, leave it as it is or do minor things, and put all their money into hobbies.
I never said don't be interested in other things such as where you live, or even raising a child.
Priorities are different between everyone.

I wouldn't move into a house and start major renovations though until I had a good job to be able to afford it... that'll come after I finish school.

I know a few people who stay in projects with their home, AND mod their car. It all depends on how dedicated you are in your hobbies, and also more importantly how much money you make.
You can't tell me my neighbor that works on an oil rig, makes if not 100k a year maybe more, and is home for like 3-4 weeks at a time shouldn't have a hobby if he has things going on at his house.
He had a shop and inground pool built within a few years, AND a 69 Camaro.

He makes a lot of money though, and this is turning into a whole different conversation so I think that's all i have to say, lol.

Trust me, I plan on parting my car out right before I finish school to fund the possibility of me having to move, along with the savings account I've been putting a little money into at a time. I'm not just dumping money into a black hole forever. lol

See, I think this is the wrong attitude that many of us adopt as we get older. Most of my professional peers are all doing this Audi/BMW/Benz thing, and almost all of them drive them completely stock :furious:

Personally, I would hate to get lost in that yuppy crowd. I consider myself fortunate that I can afford to use that disposable income to make my Honda look custom and be able to drop 3K on authentic Mugen merchandise. Who cares what your peers are driving, you should drive what you want. I am planning to drive my CG2 for at least another 3 years, while having fun modding and going even lower :)

Full disclosure, it's a Spring-Fall car, got an MDX for the winter and family trips.

The reason why I say to a car like that, is because I am a 4cy, 5spd, and without a swap and boost, then it isnt worth while. Its also FWD. Why not get a TL AWD that has almost 300hp stock, and modify there. It's a more powerful platform, and can still be modified enough. ATLP already makes new downpipes, and exhaust for this model.

Plus I have a coupe, which isnt the most functional car to have, when we start having kids. It can easily stay in the family, and turn into the project/weekend warrior car (if the cash flow prevails).

I'm all for modding, but you have to mod to your circumstances that life gives you, and to your priorities. Like I said, i will always want to tinker, and want to mod, it just wont be a 4cyl coupe.
