what would a tranny cooler do?
and where can i get a DIY

-so changing the fluid will further damage it? wow...if it goes im gonna be fu**ing mad.

Your tranny is already cooled by lines going through the radiator. If you change your fluid and your tranny is still good, I would install a remote filter coming from your "outgoing" ATF line on the radiator. They sell them and are easy to install.

You don't want to flush it, its best to drain and refill the tranny, flushing the tranny is will only make things worst in the long run....

I was told the same thing by a couple mechanics. the said you should never flush a vehicles tranny cause all of the settled debris will be moved around and can cause major problems. Are they correct? if so should i buy the new Honda tranny oil? Or should i get something else because of my high milage on the tranny? My car just hit 125k a couple days ago and i rarely feel a little kick when it shifts to 4th...rarely. Being the stock transmission it makes me feel good that its keeping up.

It depends

If you're violently jerking/slipping and it feels like its going out then yes.

If its just shifting a little late and just feels a little rough, go ahead and change it.

Mine was a little rough when I bought the car, So I had it done first thing 25k miles ago.
I've done one other time since then and my tranny is fine.

Ya flushing old auto trannys is bad b/c all the clucth packs are being held together by that old stuff and you'll clean them off and it'll make it worse. I did it on mine when it had 30K and nothing bad happened bu it was still new.

Tranny cooler is almost a must the stock cooler in the radiator is laughable.

Just get whatever your Honda Dealer has,

I posted earlier about this whole switching to DW-1 rumor (Honda's new ATF), not sure if all dealerships have done it yet though or not.

either way Z1 (which is what our manuals say to use the 'old atf') is what you should use if they haven't switched to DW-1.

And they are correct, do not have the engine flushed, simply drained and refilled (3x for a full 'service') because you can't drain the entire system at once.

Some people talk about Amsoil and I believe its called Redline ATF and how they are comprable or superior alternatives to the OEM ATF, however I would reccomend you stick to what Honda tells you to put in. Which again, is Z1 ATF or this new DW-1 ATF that you can get from your honda dealer.

when you say 3x for a full service do you mean fill and drain 3x?

Either are fine to use,
otherwise Honda wouldn't be switching to it.

It is 2.7 per drain/fill

So if you're doing a full 'service' or (drain/refilling 3x)

9 quarts I believe.

if you're doing it yourself make sure you replace drain plug washer and wipe down the magnet (its part of the drain bolt that sticks into the tranny).

also between each drain/refill (run the car around and shift through the gears)

just trying to get stuff straight because this isnt something to mess up on lol. so if i drain and refilled once (just the 2.7 quarts) wouldnt be good enough? again trying to get facts straight.
