To really hear Vtec, I usually gun it. Not necessarily full throttle, but maybe liek 3/4 or 4/5 pedal is enough to make a difference.

Mine jumps in at exactly 3500, every time. Never fails :D

:bs2:

Your car is just like everyone else's here. You're just feeling the natural torque curve that occurs between 3500 and 4500.

The 6th gen Accord (auto or Manual) 4cyl does not have a specific VTEC engagement.
It depends upon Load, throttle position & RPM's.
It can engage as early as 4800RPM's and as late as 5300RPM's
Unlike THe H23 (DOHC VTEC) the F23 is a SOHC VTEC motor, VTEC is on the Intake side.
You can get a SRI and you can hear when VTEC engages.

^^^For the V6, that's correct

I guarantee you won't be able to NOT engage VTEC by 3800rpm. Baby it as easy as you want, at 3800rpm the VTEC rocker arms will have locked. At barely more than 1/4 throttle it will engage around 2300rpm. Even at 2% throttle, you'll be in VTEC by 3800rpm.

I can provide datalogging to prove this, although it's been proven time and time again by other members here.

Then does that mean there's no way of knowing when your Vtec has engaged or not?

You can use scotch locks to tap a wire into your VTEC solenoid wire, and run that to an LED. Run the other lead of the LED to ground. You will see the LED light up when VTEC is engaged.

If that 's the case why does the F23 go into a Safe mode when the CEL P1259 comes up? If VTEC would enage at 1/4 throttle at 2300 RPM's then that wouldn't make sense if you can still rev up to 4K RPM's in safe mode
Also, that would be the first time I've heard VTEC engage in the Torq. Curve
Also one of the things that's needed for VTEC engagement is Load. How much load will you have at 1/4 throttle at 2300RPM's

Then does that mean there's no way of knowing when your Vtec has engaged or not?

Without creating a VTEC indicator you can not tell when VTEC engages

I've made such an indicator. VTEC engages around 2300 RPM in most cases. The latest I've ever seen it go was 3500 because I didn't have the required oil pressure in a turn.
