OMG the CARB site is sooo freakin vague!! Im really having a hard time understanding what is legal and whats not.

It basically says you cant replace any emissions sensative parts with after market parts even if they dont fail a sniffer. Now what the hell is emissions sensative parts. Can i get a venom intake manifold(not saying i want one just an example)? This will only open flow up and not fail the sniffer is the IM a sensative part the carb site says header, cats, and intakes are... But is that it?

I just dont understand is an msd system acually legal or does it need a CARB approval (once again not saying i want one).

Does someone have a link to something about CARB and exactly wich parts need to have a CARB sticker in order to pass smog. This is a bunch of beurocratic bs imho.

Basically nothing with pass unless it says C.A.R.B. certified.

Quit making it so complicated, whatever basic bolt ons you have. Bring your car back to stock every 2 years. Simple.

Yeah I thought every part would have a CARB legal label or be classified as such in the product description when you bought it so you'd know?

I'd be fined up the *** if I lived in that state. Just leave people alone, ****.

"allowed" parts you can use to modify your automobile, will come with/provided with either CARB sticker or badge welded on the product itself.

however, cops will find a way or another to screw you over if having bad day even if you have CARB exempt. parts.

For example, first you get pulled over for either going over 5mph compared to speed limit. or you might even get pulled over for having modified exhaust. you tell him it is CARB exempt part. he asks you to pop your hood, you have DC 4-2-1 header, which is also CARB exempt. parts. then, you will get cited for having modified exhaust that exceeds 91 (or 93 or 95db somewhere around) noise. basically, you will still have to go back to stock exhaust, or either parts wont make your car violate noise pollution regulation.

but then, CARB sticker/badge is required if you want to pass smog visual test without taking them off.

same thing with intake, breather filter, suspension, blah blah blah.
yeah i know, they don't give jack about raised trucks with blinding 1000000000k hid and their exhaust :coffee:

What's even worse is when you get pulled over for all of the above... talk your way out of the exhaust ticket... talk your way out of the over 5mph speeding... and you're left with a ticket for the front driverside/passenger side windows being tinted... which they were tinted really light.

And cops "don't give a sh*t about the raised trucks with blinding 1000000000k hid and their exhaust" + those loud a** chopper motorcycles that sound like a drive by shooting when they're going down your street.

Fast and the furious gave import tuners a bad name. Because of that cops don't give a **** about trucks and choppers, when they come out with a movie called muddy and lifted is when the cops will care about lifted trucks with ridiculously blinding hids.

Emissions equipment is basically anything exhaust related, since its emitting gases. The reasons intakes need to be carb certified is due to the vaccum ports that are on the intake tubes, maf sensors, iat sensors. Evap canisters, egr, pcv, catalytic converters, o2 sensors are emmisions related. And the exhaust decibals are 93. Anything over that is illegal due to noise pollution.

OP I think you're getting in over your head on this stuff and making more trouble then its worth. The modifications you want to do are not legal in the state of california. But there are lots of us that don't give a **** and modify to our hearts content. That's a decision you have to come to on your own. It seems like your flooding the forum with the same topic just titled differently. I'm not sure how many of the dame replies its gonna take for you to understand that its ultimately up to you. The laws have been stated, suggestions have been given.

Lolifornia! Basically, anything you want to do to your car is illegal there. Unfortunately, MA is closely nipping at the heals of cali in that regard.
