Re: Russianred's Turbo Build Thread! *UPDATED 11/2/11*

A COMPLETELY 110% fruitless day.

Yes, it is going to be a street tune.

Tuner came over today and we spent about 2 hours trying to calibrate the GM 3-bar MAP sensor - no avail. He eventually left. I spent LITERALLY THE REST OF THE DAY FUCKING WITH THIS ISSUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I plugged in the STOCK MAP sensor - no avail. Installed another working STOCK MAP sensor - no avail. Messed with the settings - no avail. Wired the MAP sensor DIRECTLY to the EMS through the firewall - both GM 3-bar and STOCK sensors we tested through this method - no avail. I have worked so much on this car and looked through so many corners to find any information possible on this MAP sensor issue that I am becoming delirious. I cannot give up but I feel that I am quite quickly losing my sanity. There is literally NOTHING I haven't done to address this issue, and it still won't read properly. Granted this is the most important sensor when tuning a vehicle because it calculates engine load, I am going fucking insane because I don't know what else to do and this is the ONLY thing holding back my progress. In all scenarios, voltage is what it is supposed to be through testing and datalogging methods, but it is impossible to get the proper load and load change no matter what settings are tried. Could it be an issue in the AEM EMS hardware side?????

Goodnight

This is the way it's been relentlessly in every aspect of my endeavor, from the biggest to the smallest tasks and issues:

This is my Accord (green too) -> :nutkick: <- This is me.

If I don't make any progress, I almost want to pull a Retroshark and say fuck it to everything that has to do with this bullshit. This is getting to be way too much, like I feel that I need anti-psychotics or something to stop thinking about how to fix it and relax. Literally losing it.

I have the MAP sensor I used on that EMS if you want to try it out - but first double check if there's any settings on EMS which enable/alter reading from it though just in case. I'm sure there was something in that EMS that had to do with load reading... I honestly wouldn't know for sure but just kinda figured.

I bought a NAPA analogue of the GM 3-Bar MAP sensor (P/N: 12223861) and now it works perfectly, reads load properly. For the official record: AEM Series 1 EMS does NOT read the stock Honda/Acura MAP sensor properly. You MUST must use either a GM 3-Bar, or the AEM 3.5 Bar MAP sensor for proper readout. Tuner is going to call me back and come over again today to do what needs to be done. Hopefully things will work out tonight finally.

I've never had a problem with my ECU and the stock honda map sensor. Is it possible that you just had two bad map sensors?

This is a very strange occurrence, but NO there's no way both of my stock MAP sensors were bad.. Wiring harness may have been bad or shorting out somewhere, but when hardwired to the ECU no way both were bad. I think the tuner just didn't know how to configure the stock MAP sensor for the AEM, or something was off because the load was all over the place. The stock one I had installed initially worked always with my P28. The stock replacement I took off of a working engine, the block from which is in the Accord now. The 3-Bar MAP that I bought used was probably broken and sold to me that way - I have already contacted the seller and I hope he can come through with a refund or a replacement. The NAPA analogue was like $95.. NOT exactly what I was expecting to have to put down to get this fixed, but there's no other way out.

63 - 60 - 150 - 80

There's still hope!

Run a leakdown test and see where the leaks are coming from, could just be a headgasket for all you know. If its leaking between the cylinders then it's just a headgasket and replace it with the nippon leakless gasket (you can get one for about $60 from majestichonda).

Check to see if its a valve, or if it's coming from the bottom end, coolant resevoir or from the oil pan it would be something with the rings or something similar. It's the only way you will be able to tell without tearing things apart just yet.
Which headgasket did you use originally?

Hey Dracord,

I would definitely be interested in checking out the basemaps you have! I believe that with the AEM EMS, one is able to do conversions of the maps between version of the software. Maybe this is something I could try. What trim is your T3/T4? Mine is 57 trim. 480cc injectors, 255 Walbro, and going for 8psi. I think that's close enough to where adjustments can be made for it to work! What MAP sensor were you using?

Erick, she will hopefully be purring tomorrow ;)

Simon, yeah I always believe in mechanical functionality and accuracy over the ease of electrical stuff if I can find a way to do it well; I guess I may be a little old-school in that sense. When coming to sensors and A/F wideband controllers, there is no mechanical way to do it, but boost gauges, boost controllers, and pressure lines I prefer the mechanical type. I have a copper tubing kit which is pretty much leak proof unless you straight up kink and break it. When I overhauled my head, I replaced the included crappy nylon tube with the rugged copper kit, and mated it to the -4 AN steel braided line which is now leaking, I think the line bust from the inside and caused this mess. There is no issues with oil leaking inside the cabin luckily because most of the steel braided line is in the engine bay. There are no leaks at the connections, just at that one strange spot where I would never have been able to guess the leak if it wasn't for the UV dye!

48 trim i believe - stock MAP sensor - 10psi right now. my computer took a crap so I can't pull the maps yet but it looks like you've got some more progress on the build. I'll see if I can get the maps to you because I'm fairly certain i'm running stock map sensor
